I mean being just a normal doctor not a surgeon would be cool but I know for sure I’m not gonna get a high enough atar for it and I don’t have the motivation to do all that just to get into medicineBeing a doctor is kinda scary. If you become a surgeon, you earn buttloads of money, but you're patients life is in your hands which would worry me a lot knowing myself
Thats fax right there. I'm not really a science guy anyway, so even if I theoretically get 99+ ATAR, my life's gonna feel incomplete doing a job solely because of the money rather then the interest I have for many other jobs. Medicine is one of the only fields where I'd do it solely for money - its clearly not for me, self verdictI mean being just a normal doctor not a surgeon would be cool but I know for sure I’m not gonna get a high enough atar for it and I don’t have the motivation to do all that just to get into medicine
I would not make this assumption easily, in any scenario.Judging by what they said, they probably didn't want to pressure you too much. From just what you said, they're really good parents
Yeah maybe I shouldn't have... I just liked the idea that their parents didn't stress that they MUST get into x university. It would be so much more soothing to know your parents wouldn't mind you going to a lower ranking uni. In this case, I'm not even sure if I was talking to them or myself, so apologies for the assumptionI would not make this assumption easily, in any scenario.

????? did i know you did IDT??Yeah switching preferences is normal I used to switch preferences a lot especially in yr 8
Some things I've wanted to do:
Like I wanted to be a detective (bc i used to read mystery books a lot) then a lawyer and then a judge bc they were related then realised I didn't want to get into like crime stuff
I considered but my parents didn't want me to (they do computer, it's not that great)
Game designer/maker but one parent js said AI would do it (arguably making games IS hard I gave up on this project too time-consuming, though I've done some small ones from a workshop)
I wanted to be a doctor in yr 6 bc everybody else wanted to but I don't anymore bc I think I'll be too scared to do anything complex or give wrong advice
The subjects I'm probably going to do are:
English and Math 3 unit
Physics
I'm tied between bio, chem, and IDT
I will probably stick with the sciences, but it's def a workload. IDT is chill but it kinda scales bad, the teacher's tests are so hard, and even though I'd probably do well in terms of ranking I'm not sure if I'll be very motivated. Also I'm generally good at science asw.
Hopefully I can just do 4U next yr so Yr 12 can be a breeze (js think of all those free periods - words can't describe how I feel when I think of them)
@Socialism whats funnySpeech path
um@Socialism whats funny
oh fair, i think signatures dont show up on phones thoum
its the only thing in your signature
its funny because its right there i guess?
chem, bio, math ext1, 2u language, engligh advWhat electives are yall gonna pick for y11 next yr?
You need 1 more unit btw 12 units minimum in year 11chem, bio, math ext1, 2u language, engligh adv
Well med's really competitive and the ATAR requirements are high + there's the UCAT to do, I don't think it's based so much on your portfolio and work experience, but you should check regarding the portfolio one in caselike i have nothing for a porfolio + my marks SUCK.
As a '25er, as the guinea pig of the new syllabus, can I just say I love it!I feel like I'm in that period where I keep switching what I want to be if yk what I mean. It seems childish, and I realise that, but right now, I'm quite into Engineering, a few weeks ago it was Lawyer, in the holidays it was an Actuary. So honestly, I'm baffled right now regarding what I want to do.
I'm thinking:
Physics (2)
Maths E1 (3)
English E1 (3)
Legal Studies (2)
Geography (2) OR Modern History (2) (Geographys my go to though since it's always been my favourite subject, dk if it'll run though)
Hbu?
why are y'all sounding so smart we in the same grade and the only goal ive set for myself is to wake up before 12um hey chat, I lowkey kinda wanna go into medicine im in year 10 and i have NO work experience for it. my careers advisor is a fatass and doesnt give any resources. I really want to know what programs i can do just in general, any competitions, any good tutoring places, what hobbies and how to build up my portfolio and stuff yk. like i have nothing for a porfolio + my marks SUCK.
Ah there's @docmcstuffins and @soggybisuit64 asw but they haven't talked much yet (not that there's much studying to talk about rn)this thread will never be as active as the 2026'ers, the only person i know thats in 2027 is like cristal, her friend that was on here at one point and some random person talking about subject selections
