The main sticking points in the negotiations with the university administration are its proposal for teaching-only positions (which would rob these workers of any time for research); fixed-term employment contracts; the duration of the agreement and the university’s salary increase offer of 4.5% a year.

What the fuck are these cunts whining about? 4.5% is above inflation and fucking solid as.

I think fixed term employment is prudent at this time as there's about to be a major shakeup of higher education and nobody knows which departments are going to need people in a couple of years, but completely understand why they want to be able to do research.

Strike has been cancelled as :

Dear Colleagues,

The University and the NTEU have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a new Enterprise Agreement this morning. The detail of the terms of the new agreement is currently being finalised. An outline of the key terms and benefits for staff will be published on the EB website next week with a further all-staff email to advise you when this is available.

Of course, this means that the NTEU will shortly withdraw the industrial action which had been scheduled for next Tuesday.

We've been victorious, comrades, and we're going back to work! The capitalists have been overthrown and our demands met - we had nothing to lose but our chains and they've been lost to our renewed workers power! ARISE COMRADES!

ARISE!

Really? Our chem lecturer told us that they couldn't run anything in the chem building if a certain number of personel working there are absent in regards to those involved in safety things, OH&S, first aid- something like that, and they still had to see if the School of Chem decided it was able to open that day.

or are ur lectures somewhere else?
