A SECOND NSW Labor Party figure has been charged with child sex offences.

Police said the 62-year-old was arrested at his home in Caves Beach last night and charged with one count each of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 10 and aggravated sexual assault of a child under 16 years.

"Detectives from the Newcastle joint investigation response team arrested a man at his home in Caves Beach at 9.40pm (AEDT) last night," a spokeswoman said. The man was refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court today.
Police said last week that "in light of recent events", they
had reopened a child sex investigation into the man.

The arrest follows that last week of NSW Government Minister Milton Orkopoulos, who was charged with 30 child sex and drug offences.
He has denied the charges and vowed to clear his name. Mr Orkopoulos was sacked as Aboriginal affairs minister and from the Labor Party and resigned from his Swansea seat on Monday. Yesterday he was rushed to hospital yesterday after an apparent suicide bid.

come on guys....innocent until proven guilty.
You shouldn't believe everything they read in the 'newspaper'.
That's the problem with alot of people in this country. Quick to lap up anything and eveything proposed by the media.

Yet it is ok for people to formulate judgements on the state of affairs in Iraq and in relation to other affairs, when we are being fed information by either weak or bias news presentations?

Sure, each man is innocent at this point, however the fact that the investigation has been undertaken by a taskforce consolidates the belief that the case would have some substance. The test of course will be the pleas each men make, and the issues they raise in court; whether they be of a technical nature or direct facts in issue..

If it were Peter Debnam, John Howard or George Bush who had been arrested for such offences, I can assure you that the same people crying due process would be condemning the men as axis of evil paedophiles...

Has this PM you've accused of lying been found guilty of misleading the public by the HC? No? I thought so.

The HCA doesn't rule on whether public figures have actually lied to the Australia public. Seriously that's one of the most ignorant comebacks I've seen for a while.
