Hey BoS! I'm Isabella, a 2025 graduate and All-round Achiever (all Band 6/E4 results) from a selective top 10 school in NSW. These are my internal results, followed by the HSC mark in brackets:
  • 1st in Economics (98), Maths Advanced (98) and a Continuers language (98) (done externally)
  • Top 10 in English Advanced (90) and Maths Ext 1 (47/50)
  • Top 25 in Biology (93), but 1st in trials
However, I believe that what matters more than any academic award is my consistent and substantial improvement across all subjects, from junior years to Year 11 and eventually the HSC. To make this happen, I relied on independent study but sought help when I needed it.

Indeed, a tutor cannot bring you from failing grades to straight As simply by teaching content. Thus, I hope that I can also impart some wisdom from my personal experiences and help motivate you through an extremely demanding time.

I am now offering private tutoring for the following Preliminary/HSC courses:

  • Economics
    • I will explain concepts in intuitive ways to build a strong foundation, teach essay writing (unlimited marking/feedback for practice essays) and exam techniques, plus whatever the student needs. I'm extremely passionate about eco, so I'd also be eager to discuss how theory can be applied to the real world, which is what makes the subject interesting. I'm aware of the new syllabus for 2027 grads, so I will study it and adapt my teaching to the new format.
  • English Advanced/Standard
    • I specialise in these prescribed texts: The Crucible, The Tempest/Hag-seed, T. S. Eliot's poetry. I will guide you through a deep analysis of these texts to help you develop your own unique ideas. Regardless of prescribed texts, I can teach and mark creative/discursive writing, short answer responses, and help with general essay-scaffolding techniques. I understand that English can be a very frustrating subject, but I will do my best to help you find confidence in it, as the recipe for success is really quite simple. My school consistently ranks within the top few schools for HSC English, so I also have plenty of valuable exemplar essays to assist you.
  • Maths Advanced/Extension 1
    • I will teach you how to approach questions and notice patterns within each topic, along with broader exam technique, including how to minimise silly mistakes and iron out inconsistencies.
  • Biology
    • Do you understand the content, but continue to struggle with hitting all the marking criteria? Or, do you find the content itself overwhelming? Either way, I was once in the same position, and my drastic improvement in HSC Biology came with months of experimentation. I believe that I can help you get back on track with this subject, or simply give you a bit of a boost to absolutely excel.
For Year 7-10 students, I am also teaching:
  • Maths
  • English
  • Science
  • Commerce
All students will gain access to exclusive notes/exemplar essays/practice materials used by high-achieving students from top schools, many of which were written by me. I can also offer advice on how to excel in HSC language courses.

Many of you have probably seen me around on this forum! As a Well-Known Member, I have actively participated in discussions, offered advice and answered questions on here throughout my HSC year. I have also assisted members such as @jane1820, @m_avi and @niecoups, in specific subjects, along with many students from my school. I hope they can vouch for my enthusiasm and genuine commitment to helping others succeed.

My current, heavily discounted rates are $45 /hr for 1-on-1 lessons, and $30 /hr each for group lessons, negotiable for longer sessions or larger groups.

I teach both online via Zoom or Google Meet, and in-person within the Hills District, along the Metro line from Tallawong to Central, or the T9 train line from Hornsby to West Ryde (other locations can be considered). I'm charging a $10 flat fee to travel to and from any in-person destination -- this covers transport costs and is negotiable depending on the destination, but not the duration of the lesson.

Please contact me for more details, or to organise a FREE 1-hr trial/consultation lesson. Send me a private message by clicking on my profile icon and 'Start conversation', or email me at lasagna766@gmail.com.

Cheers! I look forward to hearing from you :bosman:

Overall, I think I averaged around 3 hrs a day.

During school weeks, I'd study ~2 hrs in the afternoon on weekdays, and then 5-6 hrs on the weekends. I scaled up my study hours from the holidays before trials, to ~3 hrs on weekdays and up to 7 hrs on weekends. In the holidays before HSC I'd average around 5 hrs per day.

Of course, my productivity during some of those longer study days definitely wasn't high, so it's definitely possible to do the same amount of work in less time.

Accepting a couple of new students from term 2! See original post for details

I'm studying a degree heavy in maths and economics, so I'm especially well-positioned to tutor those subjects :)
