Just wanted to get everyones methods on how they deconstruct a source and see which i work better with :)

the method i use now is called COMMAR
Content - description (what is it about)
Origin - when and where is it from?
Motive - reason the source was made?
Medium - what is it? (literary,epigraphic,numisatic)
Audience - who was the source aimed at? (past and present)
Reliability - is it bias? primary/secondary?

we haven't learnt any of that yet. basically we went through all the physical dating methods of 'deconstructing' a source :p


tbh and imo, ancient is bloody boring.

Sorry to be a sheep but... randomness seems to work fine for me. What exactly to you mean 'how do you deconstruct it'?? You analyse the parts (content, author's bias, medium etc.), connect the dots and hey presto!! :D

This would only apply to modern history in the HSC exam.

er, what on earth makes you say that? Source criticism and valuation is essential to the study of ancient history at all levels.

i noe right now it aint that good but i cant wait for the case studies and the studies of ancient societies
randomness seems to work fine for me. What exactly to you mean 'how do you deconstruct it'??
i dont like following a method but i always seem to miss something so i started 'deconstructing the source' as my teacher would call it using her method =S and it still isnt as good as id like

i tend to overthink these things :( and end up writing really odd things lol

I don't have a specific acronym 'method' that i follow no, they drill this kind of shit into your head at uni so you just have to kind of know it. However your acronym sums up the big points very nicely, if you write with these points in mind what you are writing is not odd but objective (hopefully) and analytical! It would be a good idea for others to use this imo, i do wish i had been taught something like this in the HSC, it's an easy way to ensure you don't miss anything.
