i reckon we should replace the union jack with dick smith's face. :uhhuh:
That's a great idea! We should also adopt the flags of the 150+ other ethnic groups and fly them with equal status.townie said:i think australians might find it hard to adopt a new flag, a simple/good solution i think would be to adopt the Aboriginal flag as having equal status as the current flag. i.e. a "second" official flag, flown atop govt buildings etc (which is already done in many places)
edittho this one is a pretty sexy flag
yes! the rainbow would accurately signify any race except... for that fact that not all of us are gay.withoutaface said:That's a great idea! We should also adopt the flags of the 150+ other ethnic groups and fly them with equal status.
The current flag represents the dominant values of our society as being based on those of Britain, if it is to change it should have any partisan symbols removed so that it implicitly stands for the huge range of cultures contained within our shores.

It doesn't work for you. It doesn't really work for anyone, but it especially doesn't work for you.
To become a republic, you'll have a change the flag, naturally.withoutaface said:Republic yes, new flag no.

Oh, and http://members.optusnet.com.au/~brendan.jones/flags/images/aus-1.jpg has aboriginal colours (i was for that flag in 2003.. Untill i found this out).
That one's not that bad, though it feels like it has a bit too much going ontownie said:tho this one is a pretty sexy flag
As long as there is a dance version around of it.Iron said:Yeah, some would age very quickly - but we could change it again - and again and again. We'll probably have a re-mix of Waltzing Matilda as the anthem before we change the damned flag though.
the problem being all 150+ ethnic groups werent the first one's here, nor the one's we killed and stole the country offwithoutaface said:That's a great idea! We should also adopt the flags of the 150+ other ethnic groups and fly them with equal status.

I'm sure that there are plenty of ethnic groups feel discriminated against and persecuted, how is acknowledging our injustice towards them any different to acknowledging what society has done to the indigenous?townie said:the problem being all 150+ ethnic groups werent the first one's here, nor the one's we killed and stole the country off
It's becoming clearer that reconciliation needs to preceed a new flag.withoutaface said:I'm sure that there are plenty of ethnic groups feel discriminated against and persecuted, how is acknowledging our injustice towards them any different to acknowledging what society has done to the indigenous?
