A New Template for Pracs? (1 Viewer)

Our Chem. teacher gave us a handout outlining a "new, more powerful" template for practicals.

Instead of the old, traditional:
- Aim
- Hypothesis
- Method
- Apparatus.......style

it says that the "new" and better way to set out pracs is like this:
- Purpose (basically aim)
- Safety Audit
- Procedure (materials and method)
- Data (results)
- Inferences from Data
- Evaluation (conclusion)

Which one should I use in the HSC, or for assessible tasks? Are markers fussy about the way we set out our prac write-ups?

Use the 'new, more powerful' one for anything marked by your teacher, as that will make her / him happy. You won't need either in the HSC exam itself, because the exam won't assess your ability to write a report.

^^ yeah good advice. and if by chance the exam told you to write a report or whatever it woould probably give headings ( ie write a hypthesis and conclusion for ...)

yea, that was gonna be my next question. so, a prac is just an investigation of theory work??
coz my teacher said they examine u on practical work as well.
actually, on the syllabus, the left-hand side is theory and the right-hand side in generally practical isn't it?

You may be asked to describe an experiment you performed etc. Or how to do something like how can an alkane be distinguished from an alkene.

There can be stuff in the students do column that isn't really covered by the students learn column - the section on cation / anioin testing in Chemical Monitoring and Management is a good example.
