I am thinking of doing the new BEng/BCom double degree at UNSW, this is the first year it's been offered. The reason is that my first and second preferences were B Commerce and B Engineering (renewable) respectively, and I thought I may as well combine the two.

So my question is this: If you do a double degree do you have exactly the same majors to choose from if you had done each course seperately? i.e. Could I do the double degree and choose to major in say accounting and/or actuarial studies for commerce, as well as renewable engineering for the engineering part?

You can choose th same specialisations, but I think it's one major each from what's on the handbook.

Actuarial won't fit because of the SENG workload. You must overload to get your exemptions.

you mean 6 instead of the normal 5 (to be precise, 5.5 instead of 4.5) or is it (6.5 / 5.5 ?)

seng/comm is 5 years full time

acturial can fit into seng, but certain provisions must be taken into consideration. Obviously check that you can space all the core acturial courses into the duration of how long you want to be at university (~5years I would think, since this is a double degree). And if acturial, faults over you may need to overload in order to get your exemptions and/or pertain longer study at university.

There is someone doing software/acturail that I know of, so it is possible.

For the other engineering degrees, as from the engineering site, it states the duration is 5.5years full time.

Have Fun, Choose Wisely, Cause remember you don't want to be stuck doing something you don't like :)

I thought from a while ago there were some sengers who were doing seng/actuarial who posts in bos a lot. Its true that you should choose wisely, except in my case I found it hard due to my lazyness, and relied on luck to find a good degree. Now again, how good seng is will depend on my luck ;)
