It depends on your course. For me it was a waste as I have no electives for the first three years of my course so there was nothing to be explained.
If you have any specific questions about the course, order of subjects (check the handbook to know what I'm on about for this), advance standing/credit for previously completed subjects etc this is a good place to ask as the course coordinators are usually there. (Unlike admin staff they actually have an idea and can help if you have a problem)
