ACCG and ECON 300 Level electives: Help Needed (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys,

I wanted to any information regarding any of the units below which I am interested in doing in 2nd semester:

ACCG329 Security Pricing and Hedging (3)
ACCG350 Financial Statement Analysis (3)
ACCG352 Applied Portfolio Management (3)
ACCG353 Corporate Financial Design (3)

I have already enroled in ECON335, ECON 350 and ECON360 as I they really appeal to me. I am a doing a straight commerce and law degree which I have chosen to major in finance. I just need help in selecting any of the units above. What would be the most useful subject if I wish to pursue my career in finance? Which one would be the easiest of the 4?

Any help would be great. Thanks guys

EDIT: Sorry guys. I do not think I can do ACCG352 since I cannot enrol in ACCG329 as this semester I am already doing 4 subjects and doing ACCG253 which is a prerequisite for ACCG329. I guess then I am stuck with ACCG353 which sux as I have read that it is a really difficult subject. Is this true? Anyone who has done the subject or likewise, please tell me how you found it and whether it would if i do wish to pursue my career in finance.

i never did it, but from memory i think it serves as a pretty good background in terms of giving you a good foundation in finance.

329/352 are a bit more specific and technical.

any particular reason for chosing the econ subjects rather than more fianance ones? not undermining their usefulness, but apart from the fact that it interests you (and fair enough, that should be a good enough reasons to chose subjects!) just thought whether it might more practical for you to do 329/352...

Hi. thanks for your input. Do you reckon that in terms of pursuing a career in finance or in the commerce field, 329 and 352 would complement me better than say econ335, econ350, 360? Also, would firms look towards me having completed these 2 subjects or would it make me less competitive if I did not choose these 2 subjects? Thanks mate for your help

to be frank i dont even know what the econ subjects are about (or even their names)?! i was just thinking out loud .

i am going by what the prefix/subject name is. remembering this is what prospective HR departments might see after the name of your degree and majors. what are the econ subjects actually (their names/weblink)? sorry too lazy to peruse the mq website.

with regards to your question how are you differentiating between "finance" and "commerce". do you mean working for a bank/audit firm in a treasury/corp fin/ib role or a something in a company or industy...i am a bit confused.
