After going to the advising session and reading the various UNSW pamphlets, i've come to the conclusion that the best combination for me would be Accounting/Finance both interest and skill-set wise. I have a few questions though which current students' help will be invaluable in answering:

1. How difficult is the maths in these majors? I did 2u adv. and got 91 in the HSC - will this be proficient enough to ensure that I don't have any problems? (i'm much better at analysis of figures than actually creating them).

2. You know how you get to choose two free subjects for the 1st year? Which ones are the best to choose to set me up for those majors? I know the accounting ones are core but I don't want to do anything irrelevant.

Thanks for your time!

if you want to be recognised by some accounting authority (eg CPA), one (or both, can't remember) of your electives need to be commercial law

But do I have to do that course 1st year or will I have plenty of space to do it second? There were two accounting subs as core so I chose the two finance subs as my electives for this year...

Yeah with Maths, you'll be fine.

About your free electives in 1st year, you should definately do FINS1602 and FINS1603 in 1st and 2nd semester respectively (or in reverse order as they arent prerequisite)
Leave LEGT1711 and 2721 until 2nd year, you can fit them in more easily.

but The finance handout suggested doing only business finance in 1st year if you're doing a double major.

Finance offers both CapitalMarketsandInstitutions (FINS612) and Business Finance (FINS1613). They put on more lectures in Session1 for CMI and more in Session 2 for Business Finance, so thats basically why they chose that listing. Also, neither course requires prerequisites, so they can be done anytime. In the booklet, they use the combination for illustration purposes only (ie. an example of what manystudents choose to do). It is by no means an indication of their requirements, its just a sugesstion.
