Since there was no thread accuracy, validity and reliability, go figure. This applies to biology, chemistry, physics, senior science and earth/environmental science in all practicals.

First hand investigations
Accuracy- refers to measuring correctly
Reliability- refers to consistency of measurements
Validity- Refers to whether the measurements you are taking are caused by the phenomena you are interested in.

Second hand investigations
Accuracy- refers to reliability
Reliability- Refers to how consistent the information is with information from reputable sources
Validity- To what degree does the evidence support the claim. How was the information gathered? Do they relate to the hypothesis.

Accuracy
• Was it measured using a correct calibrated device?
• Were calculations correct?
• Was the correct formula and concepts used?

Reliability
• If you did the experiment again, would you get the same result?
• Were repeat trials carried out?
• Were large samples done for each trial?

Validity
• Does the procedure or experiment actually test the hypothesis?
• What variables have been controlled and identified?
• Is there a control for comparison?

Also, for validity, it's also whether there were uncontrolled variables (such as changing temperature) that could've affected the result and to what extent. Generally, in HSC, you say that your experiment was crap because...

As for accuracy, it's about how close the values were to the true values. This could be the molar heat of combustion of ethanol, 1-propanol and pentanol (or whatever they used) and showing how close say ethanol's real world molar heat of combustion (say 700kJ/mol) compared to the actual value (1367kJ/mol) etc.

Apart from that, you nailed it and wrote that very well :)

You left out Earth and Environmental Science! THAT'S DISCRIMINATION!
