The default seems to be a MDI interface where all PDFs open within acrobat. This is very irratating when I want to put separate PDFs on different screens.

is there any way to change it to a SDI interface? like ms word.

or any alternative pdf viewers that are comparable to acrobat?

Not really answering your Q, but how is Acrobat Reader 7 compared to 5 and 6.

I'm not too big a fan of 6, and decided to roll back to 5.
Is 7 just as bloated or better?

Well, acrobat 7 has MUCH faster load time compared to all previous versions. That is a major advantage. Probably the only one I can see.

damn it.... how can I get different PDFs to load in separate windows

Yeah i have the same problem, it gets annoying especially when going through exam papers and trying to look at the solutions at the same time. Having adobe professional 6 and adobe reader 7 sort of helps in having 2 pdfs open at the same time but id prefer to be able to open them all with 7.

You need to have the Acrobat plugin installed (just normal File->Open in Firefox/browser). I'm pretty sure Acrobat automatically installs it for any browsers you already have on your system. So try open the PDF in IE windows or reinstall Acrobat.

(and yeh, 6 had memory issues when it closed for me, runs much better in 7, and loads faster with whatever it preloads when Windows starts)

Open up Acrobat 7.

Go to the Edit Menu, then select Preferences.

Under the "General" tab, tick "Show Documents in Taskbar". Restart Acrobat, and they'll appear individually. :)

fatmuscle: I would really recommend the upgrade to Acrobat 7. It's much leaner than 6, which was really bloated, and Adobe have done a good job of slimming the reader down. :)

They appear in the taskbar as separate documents, but they are all still in the same MDI interface, which doesn't help since jm wants the two on different screens.

Just disable all the useless plugins if you want it to load quick :)
