You'll be doing it with actuaries ifyou do it in semester 2.

Like all things, if you work hard enough, you can get good grades. What level of maths have you done in HS?

failed it last yr, redid it this semester and passed it lol

its a subject where u have to do alot of questions, just like maths, u need practice

the subject involves 2 1hr lectures, one on techniques of finance, one on elements (theory), the theory is alot of bullshit and easy to get marks on

the tutes basically go through questions, answers on webct, but u need to attend 9 or so of them

weekly assignments are done on webct, 1 bit of advice, print them out, do them on paper and redo them to check answers, very easy to get 100 on each one, infact sum1 posted up there solutions to the assignments last yr, the questions are the same every assignment, the numbers differ

also there are 3 class tests which are out of 10, which are pretty basic

overall its an alrite subject not too hard, u just need to practice!

ACST101 isn't really a subject you do to boost your marks up.

I did it with the Actuary wannabes and got raped...PC. :( But that was surprisingly all I needed to do ACCG253, where I again ended up with actuaries. Damn you actuarial students and your quantitative prowess. *shakes fist*

If you could do, say ACCG253, with the actuaries or accountants, who would you prefer?

It is just about making the smarter choices.

Jeremy, E3 in 3u should be enough. It shouldn't strain you mathematically. You just need to be able to spend enough time to get the concepts. Fair chunk of the final and class tests will be on mindless theory (about 30% each time), which you need to be careful of.

Well iam actually an actuary (in the process neway). So are you saying that all units have a certain 'fail quota'?

No, but the actuaries will have a bell curve that is shifted to the right, compared to others.
Since, you'll perform as well in either cases (ignoring qualitative factors) you'll be on a lower scale with the actuaries.

edit: The theory ain't "english" based. You just need to know the stuff.

Hey buddy

Acst101 isn't that difficult, really, it just needs you to have practise ( liek all things in life :) ) and also be able to manage your time well during exams!!! Believe me, in actuarial subjects especailly in acst200, you need to be able to finish teh stuff quickly and only have a few seconds or so to wonder Wat the hell is going on!!!!!!!!!

So overall, do acst101, because i felt it one of the easiest acst subjects ( lol, got D in it) and enjoy!!!

All the best mate

BTW, does anyone have an idea on which of the 2 of 3 is teh best combination:
acst305, acst355 and acst357 ???

thnx

Hahhaha i believe that was me, or maybe someone else but i remeber sending some people a set of answers to the assignments i did mostly 100, but lil mistakes like typos can screw u over. So becareful what u type up, u might of done it correctly but that dosen't get u ur marks it's what u put into the brackets.

god damn i tried uploading it but it won't upload, if u want em PM me.

I think it's 75 percent maths, 25 percent theory, or 70-30, can't remeber but the general rule is do well in the maths bits that will garuntee u a credit, spend some extra time on the bs theory (element as they call it) and ur looking at D or possibly HD.
