from what i've heard it's pretty hard, and most of it will be new material...but it really depends on what you're good at.

afaik it's for first years, and priority is given to those who lack the assumed knowledge for a course (e.g. if you're doing standard level mathematics (assumed knowledge is 3 unit maths) and you only did 2 unit maths in the hsc).

If you need help, the tutors and lecturers usually give you everything you need. Also, find friends.

Uni Maths is much more rigorous than HSC Maths, so you pay more attention to the fine structural detail. You learn new stuff like vectors and matrices as well as extend functions from 2 dimensions in high school to 3 or more dimensions. You might find it much more challenging if you didn't do Extension 2 in the HSC.
At uni, you are either allowed any non-programmable calculator or the uni supplies calculators to you in exams. They aren't much different from the calculators you used in the HSC. (I actually used the exact model they supplied in uni, for my HSC less the solar powered battery lol)

When I was doing maths a uni:

1 hour/ night/maths subject.
Bit more on the weekend.
Bludge at least one evening a week.

I would have liked to do more than that, but I can't actually study maths effectively for more than 3 hours a day. (I never did more than three maths subjects in a semester).

You don't need a new calculator because they hardly ever let you use programmable calculators
