Ignore that.

Hope that helps, it really depends on what facet of graphic design you intend to go into, and whether you wish to be a specialist or a general and then specialise later.

Good luck :)

edit:

Additionally, you might be able to get even more info from Komaticom, and flipsyde, not sure who else does graphic design, but those two are well entrenched in two variations of entry into a design role. (Komaticom is doing a B Design @ COFA, whilst flipsyde is doing a B Viz Com/Digital Media @ KVB College) [correct me if im wrong people :)]

If anything, I too would recommend a private college over a University for GDesign.
You just recommended the person not persue their interests in that field. Now you're telling them to go for it?

Anyway, I recommend UNSW's COFA. It's pretty good, even better if you can get a Commonwealth Supported Place (HECS-HELP). With the private colleges, you might be left using FEE-HELP or even digging from your own pocket.

If you have to use FEE-HELP, then it's not that bad. It works in the same manner as HECS-HELP, except you get fifty-thousand dollars to spend, not seven estimated full time study loads. You mightn't be able to persue post-graduate work if you use your FEE-HELP, though, unless you get a scholarship.

Tim, am I in danger of this 7 full time semester load HECS-HELP thing stopping me from not paying upfront to attend UOW?

No, it started this year for everybody who either started this year, or before this year.

Also, it's not a year as such, it's the amount of credit points your university classifies as a year. UOW classifies 48cp as a year. So you have 336 credit points from the beginning of Autumn session this year to spend at UOW until you're no longer given a Commonwealth Supported Place.

But that's not the topic. :p

Get creative, remember the thing with the graphic design industry is that its flooded.

You need to stand out, so keep with the times, check deviantart or other design communities regular links, make sure you have a good use of photoshop, imageready, illustrator, and perhaps 1-2 3D programs. Thats a bare minimum.

Keep motivated and inspired.

Pretty clear cut, unless you meant something else, which is kinda hard to guess from that series of statements.

i think i'm a bit late to apply for private collages, but kinda wish i had of. At some uni's and tafes they said they were more interested in art teachers comment & mark than uai, lol i'd rather the uai because i didnt get along with her & she didnt like me.
Anyone actually been for an interview? what kind of questions do they ask? what should i wear?

Yeah, but nevertheless, I was saying, that a private college owns a university for gdesign. Stop nitpicking what im saying.
Im not nitpicking at what you're saying, you expressed your view that its not 'considerable' as a career. And you wouldnt waste a university preference on it. Those are your words not mine.

The private college thing was raised and people have given that outlook. But like i said, it depends on how far and what speciality he wants to pursue as different avenues lead to different jobs.

TAFE's usually don't really reject anyone, Uni preferences for the most part are based on UAI and perhaps a portfolio (unsure at other places) but the B Media in Multimedia @ MQ requires you to bring a portfolio if you aren't entering via the UAC route.

TAFE do run courses on various specialist courses, my friend was doing one on Desktop Publishing, and is now working to save up for a 3D course sponsored by one of the bigger companies and has industry links. (unsure on specifics, havent spoken to him since he moved down to Port Kembla).
