Yea like most people, I say stay in Eng Adv. If you're okay with understanding the content and texts and your only issue is performance in exams, then just practising lots of short answer and extended response questions through past papers will help a lot.

Also, reading the NESA band 6 extended response samples and sample short answers is always a big help, in my experience, because they really give a feel for what the markers are looking for

hi people, i've been getting mixed reviews from my friends about whether i should drop or not.

Some context...
Throughout yr 11 in english advanced i've been barely passing 11/20.
My best section seems to be creative with a 16/20, however the same story ditched my in prelims due to me not being able to adapt to the stimulus, and cuz i apparently talked abt death and i shouldn't.
My best section in prelims was Short Answer which i didn't study for at all and got a 13/20. I failed both my essays. overall i failed prelims by one mark, ten marks below the average.

Now the advice i've gotten so far is
1. Don't drop, because doing shit in Adv doesn't mean you'll do well in Std. They both require the same effort so you'd rather be in advanced and do shit (cuz of scaling & alignment) , than in std.
2. Drop to std, there is less competition and it's better than advanced content wise (not sure what they meant by this)

now my opinion is stay in advanced because in the class is very engaged in the learning, majority of people in std don't "care" about the subject and thus the class isn't as learning based. And i know for a fact that if my class is like that i'm not gonna put the effort to study.

I'd like some on advice on what you guys think would be better for me to do, my end goal is to get a 93 atar hopefully.

thank you :3
I wouldn't drop to standard because personally I know you can excel if you put some effort in. If you're aiming for a 93 atar I'm assuming you should be putting more effort in than you are at the moment. But that's of course without knowing your other subjects. My advice is that advanced class has more opportunities to do well in because, in my personal experience, the teachers there are more bothered. I was in standard in year 11, and it was absolutely crap, and the teachers did not care, so I was stuck with Bs every single time. When I decided to transfer to advanced, I ended up excelling and am now 3rd in the course. If I can do it, I believe so can you.

I believe I was the only one they let do that, it was up to their discretion. They knew I wouldn't slack off, I guess.

Let me know if you do decide to stay I have some resources that might help depending if you're doing the same texts as I did.

i'll decide by the end of this week. But from the looks of it i'm favouring advanced, there are way more pros than cons with the marks im getting

stay please!! im honestly in the same boat as you but a 16 in creative is AMAZING and you definitely have a lot of potential.
+ i think a larger proportion of people who do advanced take the course seriously bc a lot of people in standard are just doing it bc its the lowest level of english they can take without it being non-atar yk? this naturally scales the adv cohort up a bunch and your goal atar will be a lot more atttainable

im doing 1984 currenlty and then king henry
I can give you my 1984 essay plans if you would like; however, I did King Richard III for Mod A. Are you doing David Malouf for Mod B by any chance? I have a lot of resources on that
