Try something from a different century. Look up formal dress codes for other countries in different eras.
I wore a medieval-style dress for my year 10 formal and I was the only chick who had a unique dress.

i think suits are seksy....

maybe it's just me.
i like suits for men in the previous centuries.
if they're not too expensive, you could try that.
also, the last post on page one has the green tail suit, i'd wear it if i'm a guy.

pirates! <3
it'd be a killer to see someone cosplay jack sparrow, but that wouldn't happen. :(

for chicks: usually suits, but it could be anything thats not a dress......like mine - a white hanky top (for ppl that dont know, it looks a bit like a diamond from the front, ties up at the back) n a purple sarong...mum got em from bali
im xcited - 4mths + 1 day till my formal!!!! lol

for guys: cultural stuff, 'diff' looking suits (eg. no jacket; tails, top hat & cane; diff material...etc)... basically anything thats not 2 overdone...........but i wouldnt really know tho

In year 10, some mates from school came totally formal on top, then wore boardies and thongs, it was a good laugh

Then in year 12 they went all serious with top hats and canes

yeah, going as a pirate would look so good! especially if you get the hair, scars, parrot, shoes, etc. haha how'd you go about finding it all anyway?

how about going in a pink suit?
you could find it at a fancy dress shop.. hire?

Sunglasses, baggy black/dark blue overcoat.

Constantly say things like "My vision is augmented." and "I wanted orrrange. It gave me lemon-lime."

Why does everyone go to such lengths to be cool for 5 seconds?
last formal i arrived in a car that squirted water over everyone, the guys liked it, the girls were just pissed that their probly borrowed 1000 dollar dresses got ruined... it's not worth it lol

"i give you... derelicté!"

get an op shop suit, and rough it up a bit. holes, tears, patches, missing buttons.
cheap black woolen gloves, with the fingers cut off.
shoes: old volleys, or busted sneakers.
if there's wine at yr formal, grab a bottle and put it in a paper bag. drink from that all evening.

optional extras (depending on how commited you are):
ask yr local starbucks for a takeaway cup, put a bit of change in it, and walk around rattling it at people.
don't shave for a week or two beforehand.
yell unintelligibly at teachers and other guests.
bring a guitar. play terribly in the foyer, singing loudly.
pick pockets.

ermmm, that's all i can think of at the moment.
