I just watched it a few days ago and i absolutely love it :) One of the very few movies that have a good storyline and directing at the same time. Oh wait, i forgot, its a french film, not hollywood ;)

A Very Long Engagement is pretty solid walrus. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed to see Jeunet moving further and further from his dark, quirky beginnings though.
I agree. He was to me like the French Tim Burton or Terry Gilliam.

Delicatessen and City of Lost Children were both co-directed Marc Caro and Jeunet, and they're both much darker than Amelie or his more recent A Very Long Engagement. I have a feeling that Caro was this darker influence, so it's a shame they no longer work together.

'City of Lost Children' was just plain weird. But most french films tend to be eccentric.

I can't remember what film it was I watched last year for french, but I still remember the line: 'For years you've looked at me as if my dick tasted rancid'. The movie was crap, but that amused me for some time.

:D

Amelie is a gorgeous movie. It makes me happy watching it.

i really liked Amelie, it's a light hearted movie, and makes you feel happy after you've watched it. I haven't seen A Very Long Enagagement but I've heard it's not so good...

i loved it, it was an excellent film, especially when she sends the garden gnome overseas and has the pics sent back, that was hilarious!

god i love this movie. i only watched it recently, and then watched it again the other day... gets better every time.

le temps n'a rien changé. amélie se réfugie toujours dans la solitude ..et se pose des questions idiotes sur le monde ou sur cette ville.
par exemple, combien de couples ont-ils un orgasme ê cet instant?

time has changed nothing. amelie still seeks solitude. she amuses herself with silly questions about the world below.
such as, "how many couples are having an orgasm now?

..et j'ai eu deux crises cardiaques, j'ai dû me faire avorter... j'avais pris du crack enceinte. en dehors de ça, tout va bien
i had two heart attacks, an abortion, did crack... while i was pregnant. other than that, i'm fine

so, my little amélie, you don't have bones of glass. you can take life's knocks.
if you let this chance pass, eventually, your heart will become as dry and brittle as my skeleton. so, go to him, dammit!

sans toi, les émotions d'aujourd hui ne seraient que la peau morte des émotions d'autrefois.
without you, today's emotions would be the scurf of yesterday's.
she is gorgeous. our yr 9 french class went to this with our very conservative french teacher haha, she was shrieking in shock at half the jokes and when we got back to the classroom she forbid us to talk about it (at the time we were under 15 and the cinema people had told her it was PG, but was actually M and there's a rule against that) - but it was a really funny movie and we got out of class so :) we always did fun things in french like croissant tasting and stuff....*misses it
