Currently, there is a shortage of young people doing amateur radio

It's something that I'd encourage anyone with a passion in electronics and technology to undertake.

A lot of activities are hands-on such as contests and field days. Amateur Radio also has a lot of practical workshops
where you get to make antennas, learn how to solder and do all other sorts of crazy stuff.

It also has many sub-branches such as microwave communications (as in radar dishes) and satellite communications.

There's also lots of volunteer opportunities as well such as providing technical support at the ARNSW weekly broadcasts,
WICEN events and helping run local Amateur radio clubs
