This might be hard for people to believe but George Bush is quite a good debator.

See Gore/Bush debates.

My reaction: Both argued fairly well, no-one greatly mis-spoke. Kerry should have picked up on Bush's "consistancy" line earlier, and Bush should have not taken so many pauses. Hard to pick a winner ...

Yes, not even the ABC decided to run this ...

Good thing it was on Sky News, CNN, BBC World and Fox News ...

Kerry can't argue on consistancy, he's getting destroyed by quotes like "I voted for the $87b package before i voted against it".

Heh the agreement for the 'debate' seems kind of funny.

Since I had to help out my parents today at their workplace i was worried i was going to miss out on the debate. luckily one of the radio stations (am) was broad casting it. phew! Considering that debating is not a strong point of Kerry, I have to say he did fairly well. Bush was alrite... but he kept having pauses, probably trying to incorporate his memorised repsonses into the questions being asked of him. But when he started going on about visiting some family where the father had been killed in iraq and him consoling the wife saying he sacrificed himself for the good of the country.. (anyone remember that?) I wanted to start gagging.

i didn't catch it myself (thus haven't voted in the poll)

Bush tends to be convicted with simple answers, comes across as the likeable guy
Kerry tends to be verbose

same trends?

asqy that was completely the wrong way around
Bush responds to questions in a manner that confuses people, in the end you dont know whether or not he's answered it or not or just spread more bs. he stutters, mumbles, pauses, says about 20 "umm..." and "errr...." for every response.
Kerry provides clear answers. he speaks eloquently and articulate and actually makes sense

No, that is my point. He should say something like "there is no point in being consitant if you are consitantly wrong". Candiadtes have the right to change their mind, and should if they think they are currently going about things the wrong way. Kerry should have made that point more.

Admittedly, I'm relying upon highlights here, but didn't Bush make a verbal gaffe along the lines of mixing up Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden? Something like 'We're still looking for Saddam Hussein..I mean, Osama Bin Laden'. Not a good sign, if so.

bush looked strong clear and simple...pretty much what people can understand
Kerry debates well but most of what he says goes overthe head of most of the US population
however its those people that hes reaching that would be the only ones voting, i would think

Both candiadate made a few minor errors (that really wasn't that much of an error).

you guys are not serious in your 'long pause' argument are you?

it's somewhat ironic and futile, if not redundant to expect so much.

Bush had noticably longer pauses than Kerry. A (good) comedian can think on their feet, and so should a President be able to. The time taken to utter the question and a standard answer first line should be enough time to think out your answer.

Bush seemed to lose his train of thought several times, and look slightly losted while he stood there and tried to regain his line of thought. Kerry seemed to be in control of almost ever word he said.
