what is needed to full answer this dot point;
•Discuss the importance of Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation in understanding and calculating the motion of satellites.

is it just that we can workout the orbital velocity of a satellite?

and while we are at it, how about this one

•Discuss the effect of the Earth’s orbital motion and its rotation motion on the launch of a rocket?

•Discuss the importance of Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation in understanding and calculating the motion of satellites

You also have to know the relationship with Kepler's Law:

Kepler;s law can be used to find the mass of a planet by determining period and radius of a satellite orbiting that planet.
And Newton's law of universal grav. determines the motion of satellites, enabling scientists to calculate their position and velocity at any instant. (Source: Excel HSC Physics)

For this point, u've got to know that if u tilt a rocket and launch it in an easterly direction it'll take advantage of Earth's easterly velocity.
And higher the latitude a rocket is launched at means less effect of Earth's rotation. Thus, launches are near the equator.

Also if the rocket's launch corresponds with the launch window: if the direction of the launch corresponds with the direction of the desired heading then the rocket can acheive an even larger velocity boost

Discuss the importance of Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation in understanding and calculating the motion of satellites

* Newton’s gravitational equation can be used to derive equations that let us calculate or predict the orbital velocity of planet’s, moons and artificial satellites by equating gravitational and centripetal force.

Discuss the effect of the Earth's orbital motion and its rotational motion on the launch of a rocket

* The principle used in rocket launch is that a moving platform offers a velocity boost to a projectile launched from it, if launched in the direction of motion of the platform.
* Earth Orbit:A rocket heading into orbit is launched to the east to receive a velocity boost of 1,700km/h from the Earth’s rotational motion relative to the sun.
* An Interplanetary Trip:The flight of a rocket heading into space is timed so that it can head out in the direction of the Earth’s motion and thereby receive an extra boost of 107,000km/h.

•Discuss the importance of Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation in understanding and calculating the motion of satellites.

basically it allowed us to understand the nature of the trajectory of the satellites, as it derived the concept of centripetal force and allowing us to describe the motions using conics (parabolic, hyperbolic...). This is based on the velocity of the object (or satellite) and its distance from the center of the more massive object (planet) as the acceleration or force is inversely proportional to distance squared (Newton's law of...). Also, as it provided understanding of the motion an object due to the attraction of a more massive object, it gave rise of obital velocity and escape velocity which is derived using equations... this was only made possible when the fact that centripetal force exists as without knowing this, it is impossible to even think about orbital velocity or escape velocity (u can just talk about the significance of orbital velocity and escape velocity now, eg. a velocity lower than orbital velocity=parabolic curve back to ground... and the equations of orbital velocity and escape velocity basically allows u to calculate the motion of the satellite for the same reason eg. lower than orbital velocity=parabolic path back to earth)

•Discuss the effect of the Earth’s orbital motion and its rotation motion on the launch of a rocket?

(i'm just writing the main points because i can't be bothered writing an essay on this and the points are not in order)

*earth rotates from west to east
*principle of relativity
*centrifuge effect
*max centrifuge effect at equator
*earth orbits around sun
*gravitational pull of earth on rocket
*vector addition
