Yep 90% sure I'm going to ANU for a double degree wither Science/Languages or Medical Science/languages :)

I've applied to live at john's. I agree about moving out of home (I'm from sydney) - I can't wait o experience college/on campus life!

Ahhh what course?

I know someone in a similar boat,he's planning to go to ANU to study psychology since he doesn't have the ATAR for the unis in sydney and he also likes the challenge of being independent, which is undoubtedly a critical skill in the real world and the work place.

I'm probably going to be doing either I.T./Law or Economics law should I decide to go to ANU :) About 85% sure I'll end up there next year!

Didn't you get 99.95? Why did you go to ANU?
lol no and no

and I'd go to ANU because ANU has a solid rep and uni environment/atmosphere, it's not like you can ever "waste" your ATAR at your own chosen uni unless you hang out with people like you who obviously think ATAR should determine what uni you should choose

Your English guide was so good I guess I assumed you got 99.95 lol.

But I didn't mean that anyone would waste their atar going to ANU, but though that Usyd and UNSW law are more prestigious (maybe) and much more convenient to go to/

Lol my bad for the jumping to conclusions

But really ANU ranks as the best uni in Australia overall and in Arts and Humanities so if prestige was a factor ANU would be the top choice I guess. That being said, having checked the employment stats of ANU/USYD/UNSW/MQ/UTS/Newcastle there's less than a 5% difference between them, and ANU would be really good because they're close to a lot of big national firms and Parliament (so if you wanted to go into politics you're quite close to everything). Prestige has a limited role in employment in the end

Actuarial studies.
And yeah, that's pretty much my thought pattern as well, new years resolution: be 100% independant haha

Also, best of luck to you britaker!

I'm yet to make up my mind- hopefully get an early January offer and then a different Main Round offer to buy me a little more decision time.

Would be very keen to head to ANU, but I'm not 100% in a position to live on campus unfortunately.

Did you have to apply to get an early jan offer? or is it just normal UAC?

No separate application- just so long as your preferred ANU course is your top preference. Before Jan 4, I believe.

Don't let that fool you. Most Canberra offices of tier firms take on 0-1 grads each year through the official grad recruitment program. Many ANU grads end up in the public service. Just something to keep in mind. There are obviously quite a few smaller firms you can find work at while you're studying.

I've applied for Johns at ANU, got above the cut-off for combined law. Hopefully I'll be sweet to get in.
