Help
well since the whole class is acheiving such low marks.. it could mean that the exams are just extremely difficult...

as trev stated... "you don't need study notes"... maths is a subject where to succeed u need tonnes of practice and practice especially if ur not a mathematics person...(as in: maths not being ur best subject).. the more practice u do the easier everything becomes...

compare ur school's examinations with that of the HSC standard...(i.e by reffering to success one... this site in the resources section... or boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au)

if u find that the school examinations are easier than the HSC standard.. then it may mean ur in need of some hard work.. along with the rest of ur class...

I think the reason you're all doing so poorly is because you don't understand the concepts. Notes and practice questions will be useless to you. You need to get out your textbook and pick the most basic topic you are having trouble with, and read over it thoroughly, being sure to read the examples and ensure you know how they did them.

Only then should you do lots and lots of practice questions.

Study notes? You'll never need them for mathematics.

just keep doing practice, practice and more practice. That's the only way you can pass maths. Buy more textbooks and do the exercises from them. However, there are notes in the maths resource section which someone has typed up for the whole HSC course.

You do need a good grounding in the basics as Slide Rule said.

1. Make sure you know ALL the required formulae. Get hold of the syllabus @ http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au and make sure you've covered everything
2. Once you know all the formulae, it's time to apply them to questions from your textbook...if there is just one thing you don't understand, post a thread on BoS and we'll be happy to help. However, your first port-of-call would of course be your teacher.
3. Continue to practise questions...from textbooks, trial papers, past half-yearlies and topic tests etc.
4. If you find that some exercises are too easy, then ask your teacher for more challenging questions...maths in limitless.

Btw. if you can scan a copy of one of your tests and post it on this thread, we can help you to "standardise" it so you have a better understanding of your position.

make sure you practise Exam questions, thats the key to success in tests.

Do your homework (meaning the every question of every exercise) properly. This is when your initially learning the concept.

Then when studying/preparing for an exam. Do trial questions like questions from tests. There's Excel and other study guides with Questions Topic by Topic. Very good.

Hope it helps.
