anybody applying for COFA - 2004? (1 Viewer)

SCA is the equivalent of COFA but is at Sydney UNI. But SCA is based on interview and portfolio and not on UAI. Iam gonna be studying at SYDNEY COLLEGE OF THE ARTS (SCA)this year. Hope everything goes well. Its funny how jobs and design artsy courses have a reputation of hard to find a job. I wonder if anyone is studying there too this year

SCA and COFA are the best known colleges/uni for arts. I know that SCA speciallises in architecture. I found this out in the scary interview. I also found out during the interview that SCA (which at that moment was my first pref) wasn't really the place I wanted to end up in. The course just wasn't exactly what I wanted.

The only thing that stopped me from putting COFA as my first preference AT FIRST... was the UAI. I thought it would be impossible for me to achieve such a UAI.

But it wasn't! ^__^ I'm happy. I changed my prefrences immediately.

I'm doing B Digital Media at COFA (first pref) - its the only UNI that offers such a course that is close enough so I don't have to live somewhere else. SCA has B Media Arts but I found out that the course wasn't really what I wanted to do. UWS also had something similar but half of it was about Music and I didn't really want do to music since I had no interest and no expertese in the area.

I've also been to COFA before for a summer course. People kept telling me how wonderful the campus was - so when I first saw it - it wasn't the extravagant castle I imagined. But seeing other institutes after, I realised it couldn't have gotten any better. And the more I went to COFA, the better it appeared to me.

On Enrolment day I met I primary school friend who happens to do the same course as I do. ^_^

I just came here to seek any others doing B Digital Media...?

Iam gonna be doing B Media Arts at SCA this year. COFA is a nice campus i love its on one of the most cultured streets and neighborhoods in Sydney. I chose SCA coz i knew my UAI will be way too low for COFA. Since SCA is based on portfolio and interview while COFA is only based on UAI, which i think it isnt right since FIne Arts courses should be based on ure Artistic intelligence rather than Academic Intelligence. Anyhow that doesnt matter anymore. Iam going to Sydney Uni which i feel so relieved and happy form all that HSC stress.

B Digital Media at COFA sounds like a really cool course to do since u study animation, graphics , digital imaging and web authoring. It seems its a very trendy course to do.
But as always with these ARtsy courses ppl will always worry about the potential of employment. And the risk of doing soemthing that interests yourself but less of a job prospect for ure future.
But iam not gonna care about it for now but just focus on enjoying myself and having fun in my chosen course....good luck to all COFA and SCA students. May you have fun and never look back why u did what u did!!!!!!

COFA v UTS; combined degrees

hi everyone

I had been ineterested in doing a b design in visual communication at uts, but then found out that b design was offered at cofa, and was wondering if anyone would be able to offer any information about studying at cofa as opposed to uts, and what exactly is involved in doing a combined degree, eg design and digital media...is that possible even...?

bachelor of arts at unsw combined with some subjects from cofa?

The chicks at cofa are awesome. I'm seen loitering around there printing t-shirts
Also as for the digital media courses, do you need experience?

omg cofa is the bomb i'm doing b.fine arts/arts and i absolutely love it! the teachers are excellent and i love the freedom you get to paint virtually anything you want and it's only the second semester!
have a friend doing digital media and she loves it too- don't need any experience for that course, she didn't do are or any creative arts subjects at school and is doing well! come to cofa it's the best!!

I'm thinking about those 3 courses too. but i don't think you can do a combined degree with b design AND b digital media. argh i want both too! you can only combine design courses with art education and art theory. go to the springfair/open day tomorrow!

I've heard good and bad..because of doing the double degree, you can only specialise in one area instead of two in Fine arts. It's my first preference, and I want to do Arts and Fine Arts, but do you really miss out on a lot of the Fine Arts side if you do the double degree? I'll probably still go for it anyway...

I was very interested in studying Design at COFA, but I was told that there are limited career opportunities, and thus chose Design in visual communications at UTS as my first pref. What do you guys think about the courses at COFA?

Do you guys know whether you have the same freedom of a BA at UNSW if you combine it with B Art theory? I'm interested in combining the two but I haven't got a heap of information atm. (btw i'm deferring till' next year)

basically they cut out half the classes from your fine arts course, so like in session 1 instead of doing 2 lots of electives eg. painting/drawing/printmaking and sculpture/time-based/whatever the 2rd one is, you only get to pick one set, so if you don't know what you want to major in then that's a bit of a bum (lucky for me i did) and i didn't do the art theory lecture that session cos we had a choice between that and intro to computing but that's apparently been cut out now. so you don't get to do as much prac as the normal BFA students, but i wasn't overly fussed on that cos you're overloaded with BA stuff anyway. you still have generally the same amount of hrs as the BFA students, but in the end you get an extra year of electives and stuff so i'm assuming it sort of balances out in the end.
