It really depends on which degree you are going to study. Apparantly UTS is pretty good for courses like technology (duh lol), international studies and journalism etc.

In general terms, I think both Times and Jiao Tong University of Shanghai rate it much further behind the others including Macquarie. Not sure why.

They do O-day, its a day and a half where all the clubs and societies put out stands in order to get you to join and there's usually a free sausage sizzle. Thats about the gist of the 'fun' stuff.

so theres nothing like the orientation at usyd or unsw? do ppl find this makes it more difficult to meet ppl at uts?

what do ppl do for the rest of that week when others are at their unis o-week...sit at home?

If you come to o-week you are bound to meet someone.. (even the campus tour you meet new people - I know I did). Other than clubs and society stands in building 1 there are heaps of other activities planned in other parts of the university campus.

Two websites that you can find more information about this is here:
U @ Uni - http://www.newstudent.uts.edu.au/
Orientation 2007 - http://www.orientation.uts.edu.au/

Unlike at school there aren't a bunch of identical things that you'll go through with pretty much the same people every day for six years. Rather, the onus is on you to find and socialise with people you like whether its through clubs and societies, or things you organise in your own time. Just remember its up to you to take the leap - if people aren't coming up to you then go to them.

In short, yes people do socialise, but its at their own disgression.

I'm not sure if I would say heaps - most of the activities are just tours or seminars.

I've been to orientations at the other universities, and thats mostly what its like there as well.

yeah of course

what i have said a bit before
law does something better
we socialise with other law students at other unis with the intervarsity law parties
they are awesome.
UTS, UNSW, Macquarie and at the last one UOW were there also.
