identify data, choose equipment, plan, and perform a first-hand investigation using flame tests and/or spectroscope analysis as appropriate to identify and gather first-hand information to describe the emission spectrum of a range of elements including Na and Hg

does anyone have an outline or whatever for this cos all i remember ourteacher doing was putting some sodium in some water or something and it lit up that was it.

It is forensics.

Post in the Forensics forum next time so other Chem people won't start panicking. :p

It's basically just flame tests and AES. You'll be given the emission spectra of those elements in the exam where you need to identify elements in a mixture, etc. You won't be asked to draw the emission spectra.
