If you want to do something in health science there is always speech pathology, Ocupational therapy etc as well as physio. Keep in mind that Physiotherapists do a lot of hands on work and female physio's tend to get arthritis in their fingers.

Yep Im a sucker who chose physio...
Rumours are true, it's really full on, 7 subjects 5 days a week, don't often get to leave early.
You really have be in to it and be committed because at times it drives you crazy but personally I really like it.
On the arthritis thing, I guess it is a practical occupation but hey if you do develop an injury like that you'll know the best way to fix it..!!
Is there anything more specific you would like to know??

You are just the person I've been looking for.
I've too, been hearing mix responses about choosing physiotherapy. Apart from the dead bodies and displaying yourself half naked in front of the class, I've heard that there's less practical work and more theory work. Is that true? I've also heard that in the 3rd year or something, there's awhole semester for work experience.

Ah.. all these rumours, I don't konw what's true and what's not.

Wow... 5 days a week, that seems a lot. It seems there's no time for anything else. I really like the thought of becoming a physiotherapist but the 4 year of hard core dedication with no breathing space is slightly turning me away from the course. Please convince me

lol, seriously if you are fascinated by the human body and the way it works practical anatomy classes are awesome. As for surface anatomy, aka parading half naked they sort of ease you into it, in 1st yr semester one you start with the upper body/limbs --- the guys are shirts off and the girls are just in singlet tops. It is rather awkward at first, but by the end of the prac class evryone is wandering around observing different muscles on different people. Plus I guess the awkwardness is good, because at the end of the day in clincal practice patients will feel uncomfortable also... so you know how they feel.
Physio does require alot of dedication, first year and 3rd (I've heard) are the worst. The load in 2nd year is still 7 subjects but crammed into 3 days, 8-6pm days....
Practical placement starts early in 2nd year and continue throughout the degree. Once a week you are in the workplace... and you can get some pretty awesome placements. One guy was telling us about his placement with the Royal Flying Doctor Service... that experience would be great.
I guess another positive is the employment prospects. With aging population and the state of the health system, most people are practicing quickly after graduating. And there are only two places in NSW (from memory) where you can do undergraduate physio --Sydney and Newcastle so if you can can in and get through I think its well worth it. Fellow students are laid back and helpful.. the profession is all about helping people so everyone is nearly ready to offer a helping hand if need be. You really get to know people too, because physio is a rather structured program, so all physios will sit the same units, be at the same tutes... there are specialist electives in later years but again you are just with a bunch of physios!
At Sydney it is not on main campus but at Cumberland, which some people have a problem with. Yeah its smaller, but you get to know people, meet up with people easily. And you dont have to battle getting into the city... always a positive if you can avoid Cityrail.

studying anyhting for 4 years is going to be tough, but you have to keep your career in perspective the whole time, even though studying for physio will be very challenging and require lots of commitment and dedication, you should be convinced that at the end of the day, it will be worth it.

you have to give some to get some, and any health science is basically full time, thats just the way it is..everyones in the same boat, don't worry, it can be fun :)

yeah! there are heaps of physios livin at main campus. For 1st yr there are like 5 at st johns, 1 at st andrews and prob alot more. As for the chemistry/physics, it helps if u have done it, but if u havent i guess it requires a bit of work....cant really comment on that :)

was thre a reason u'd have to live at camperdown campus? Theres accommodation on campus at Cumbo (although limited) but theres a bit around lidcome aswell.. f that was a deciding factor
