I'm just gonna wait until they release a video ipod nano-style (i.e. small)
Well have fun waiting for a 30GB+ flash memory player to come out.. because it ain't gonna be soon.

Also if a player is gonna have video capabilities, I think it would be crap to integrate it into something Nano sized? The screen would be so piss tiny.. it would seem to be irrefutably pointless to me, personally.

As for battery life, yes I heard it wasn't that great for the video department (last time I heard only 2hr continuous playback?). For playing music, it should be fine.

Overall, it seems pretty nice. I wish I waited for this one.

Dude, 30GB flash is only 2 x Samsung 16GB NAND flash... and they'll easily have 32GB single flash chips by the end of next year.

By nano, I mean the actual thickness... yes a nano-sized screen would suck.

Dude, do you know how much 16GB NAND flash modules cost?

The 30GB iPod actually has worse battery life playing music than the Photo version. The 60GB is a different story.

Exactly. Integrating erm.. TWOx Samsung's 8-gigabit NAND modules at the max 16GB each to an mp3 player by the end of next year, that's still going to be exorbitantly expensive.

I didn't say the technology didn't exist dude, it's all about when it'll become economically feasible for companies to integrate such technology whilst able to sell it at competitive prices.

True they are still expensive, but obviously not terribly expensive as I read somewhere that Apple is set to buy 40% of all NAND flash memory produced by Samsung.

That's only 1 and 2GB modules (or is Apple still buying one from Samsung and another from somewhere else?). 16GB modules would cost at least a few thousand dollars.

the Apple site says 15 hours of music playback for the 30Gid and 20 hours for the 60Gig... I wonder what the difference is for video playback?

one other question, what videos do people actually play on their ipod? I can imagine playing the occasional music video but can't think of anything else really?

I think the battery life varies between 3 and 8 hours depending on what sort of video you're playing etc.

For videos:

-Vidcasts (like a podcast, but video)
-Instructional videos
-TV shows/episodes
-Comedy acts
-News
-Weather
-Pr0n
-A variety of IPTV shows

e.g.... a few IPTV/vidcast videos I watch... which are mainly tech videos since there aren't many others out there yet (some are already ipod suitable and others aren't):

www.diggnation.com (video version)
www.twit.tv (video version)
www.commandn.tv
www.hak5.org
www.rocketboom.com

...um? There would be thousands more. Search for "<topic/interest> ipod video" or "<topic/interest> m4v video" or "<topic/interest> IPTV video" etc

Just my opinion, but I don't personally care about the video capabilities. Many reviews I've seen aswell basically just label it down as 'Buy it for the music player'.. and I couldn't agree more. Get it for the music.. and just view the video capability as a side-function which you can even practically ignore if you don't need it. Just that some people think 'WOWz0rs this thing can play videos, that means I'm gonna be worthless and it's gonna be a total waste if I buy this and don't actually use it as a video player' etc.
