we got this assignment where we have to do three experiments to work out the g. First has to be the pendulum prac. second...we did this prac with balls of diff. sizes rolling down little slides or sth...third one...we have to chose our own. What can I do (other than pendulum and slides) to find the 'g'??? Any ideas?

There is a water drip one, which is in Jacaranda if I remember correctly, bit hard to perform at home however.

Ok the water drip thing involves.

Filling a burrete and having it about 1.5m off the ground, adjust the flow rate so that a drop leaves as soon as the one preceeding it hits the pan. Now you need to make sure that there is a near constant amount of water flow (continually filling it up).

Now count the number of drops that go in 60 secs.

Then get the average amount of time it takes for a drop.

s=ut+1/2*at2
u=0 (as no initial velocity)
1/2*at2=s
a=2s/t2

Where s is displacement ie height.

wht's 'sup'?? so how do i find 'g'? Do i have to graph something like the pendulum one or should i get a direct answer?

btw...thanks heaps

Sup is just superscript it is just to put the 2 up.

Acceleration (a) is gravity.

Direct answer but you need to get the average time.
