Im considerin getting one coz its small, light (relatively) inexpensive and from what i've seen they are easy to use for a computer illiterate like me

however so many people are against mac's altogether...im wondering why this is?
For what i need, (i dont play games or anything else which takes up alot of space) it seems like the best investment but help me out!

Are you going to get an iBook or a PowerBook? The iBook was upated recently but word is that the PowerBooks should be updated in September so you might want to wait if you want to get a PowerBook.

Some people don't like Apple for the same reason some people don't like Microsoft, Dell, HP, Ford, Holden etc. That is because they either had a bad experince/s with them or they 'love' some other brand. Apples are fine although a bit more expensive but most people agree you get compensated with Apples good service/performance. Also you might be eligible for a edu discount, check it out because you will save.

Apple will now be using Intel rodents to power their cheesboards. Wait until Intelt rodents are in use, in order to avoid your cheeseboard/rodentpower from becoming redundant and obsolete.

Apple have said they will support PPC chips for quite some time.

Ive actually got no idea what one it is. Its small and white (it comes in silver but its the more powerful one and like triple the price). Its less than $2000.

is that the ibook or powerbook?

also we might be getting wifi networking and cable in our house. My brother has a norm PC. Will this be an issue?! (connecting a mac to a normal PC)

Filesharing to Windows PC’s wont be a problem, neither will common (gateway) access to the internet.

What you are talking about must be the Ibook beacuse the power books have RRP’s over $2000 at which they start.

For the australian Ibook.

Later as stated, they will be starting to use intel chips apparently, namley this will be a benefit to laptops, beacuse they will be running Pentium M (centrino) in their ibooks / powerbooks, so previously big issues of heat from the notebooks wont be such a problem.

Go to Apple website...then store, then on the right sidebar click education, follow the prompts and you'll get the prices there.

You can pay me 1/2 the money you save if you want :) Now the real question is can you wait a year until you get the notebook? Remember there is always new technology around the corner and if the next upgrade brings a processor upgrade you might just want to get it then (even if that isn't an upgrade to Intel chips). Also what are you going to be using the computer for? You might not need an ultra powerful system.

all i really need is something that is ultra-portable. under $2000. Relatively light and easy to use. I dont need anything too powerful Adrian, i just need it for basic stuff like internet (browsing and research - not 2 many downloads) word processing, and powerpoint presentations
