i'd say limited editions these days are more about getting rid of old stock and parts.

grab a car, go to the 'parts bin' and add the two together, therefore getting rid of old models and parts

back in the good ole days my dad used to make money from cars, by buying pieces of shit and fixing them up (mechanically) and spending minimal money on them to sell them at a greater price.
