sorry i had to do this..

but following on from brogan77's "why sydney uni is better than other uni's" clever thread

I freakin do want to go to uni of sydney. I can get the marks to get in. I will most likely get into the course of my interest

IF IT WASN'T FOR EVERYONE I KNOW TELLING ME TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS *CERTAIN* COURSE BECAUSE IT'S BLOODY SUCKS ASS.

so I'm going to UTS because it's 'recommended', and it provides the best course in my field of interest

AND THEN I HAVE PEOPLE TELLING ME ITS 'THRID-RATED' AND ITS SUCKS AND IT'D NEVER BE BETTER THAT USYD AND IS WORSE THAN TAFE!

so what do i do? I'm so confused!!! I want to go to SYdney, for one thing because of you usyders and especially this brogan dude showing it off and talking it up and it seems so great, and also because it has an excellent reputation.

I. don't. know. what. to do. full. stop.

go to the uni you want to go to. don't listen to other people. if you really want o go to usyd why would you go anywhere else just because other people are telling you to? who are these people anyway? people your age? they know as much as you about uni i.e. nothing (meant in a non offensive way). ring some employers and check if the usyd course is really that bad. i doubt it would be.

alternatively, come to mac. brogan only talks usyd up because he's a wannabe mac student :p

UTS is obviously better than TAFE. Although Ultimo food > UTS food.

Yeah, you need to tell us your course too. :)

Campuswise, obviously USyd owns all.

don't say that; usyd propaganda is very believable :)

Isn't USYD Media & Comm more theoretical, while UTS is more practical? If it is, think about which one you'd like more out of your ideal degree, and pick it.

It seems more like you want someone to simply tell you to go to USYD and reassure your decision rather than give you any advice - otherwise you wouldn't have posted exclusively in the USYD forum. I also wouldn't rely on net threads boasting about universities - we all talk our unis up on here, I know I do.

Also, if you really are that torn about the whole thing though, then you could go to both - the UTS course does allow you to take all of your electives at another uni(eg USYD, UNSW etc.) you know. And you could always add a Diploma of Arts at USYD if you wanted to do more arts subjects there. Thats what I plan on doing...

It's more that the UTS course is very specific and specialised, the USYD course is more generalised. For e.g at USYD you'll do a little bit of media study, a little bit of journo and a little bit of PR, whereas at UTS you would do an entire major in journo or PR or writing etc.

Shimmy: In all seriousness, its probably best if you just go away and think about it on your own without following what everybody else - including us, your friends and your parents - thinks. You'll come to a resolution that is much more honest to your own goals that way.

haha yeah but she seems like an insecure girl who must be reassured that usyd is the best choice. let me elaborate

shimmy if you don't go to usyd you're fat. yeah that's right muffin-top.

p.s. i'm joking, i don't think you're fat. at least i hope you're not :D its always the fat people that get offended by these posts. to reiterate you're not fat

haha I'm not fat, just to erassure you and others. unless a size 8 is considered fat? lol.

thanks so much guys, yeah I did have a resolution when doing the "pick nine courses now in your favourite order NOW" for the UAC thing. I did actually go away from other peoples opinions and thought through it myself. I'm not a sheep, Kami... But I know a guy who transferred from usyd to uts, and that keeps me asking questions. omg, this whole process is frustrating. WHy can't i have the best of both. You have no idea how many people say to me "just choose Sydney, it has green grass you can sit on!"

Ok, i listed uts as 1st. usyd as 3rd.

and yes, i was talking about media and communications.

and yes, i did go talk to employers. they did not even know that Usyd offered the media course. Wasn't too familiar with it. And this was a woman from the Nine Network who asked all her colleagues for moi.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'm posting these threads just because I need to be reassured, but this has made me further confused! I think I'll follow your lead Kami (now I'm a sheep) and do an extra diploma at Usyd. That way i can have the best of both worlds! :)

If you were talking about Media/Communication Degrees, UTS definately has a better program than USyd. I have friends who go there, their work load is much lighter than mine and if they get good marks they'll get a chance to study and live at international Universities of which the cost is mostly bourne by UTS. In terms of reputation among employers as well, UTS has a much better communication/media degrees than anything USyd has to offer in my opinion. So yes, choose UTS.

I would've gone there myself, but I just couldn't see myself in uni for 5/6years...

ZOMG fat! :p

haha yeah i'd think a size 8 would place you on the slimmer side of things. which potentially makes you pretty hawt

and besides you don't have to make your final choice until jan 4, so focus on the hsc first i mean society and culture sounds like a pretty hard sub  ;)

and there's always the uni open days come jan 3 or so, and seeing the proximity between the two you could very well visit both and base your decisions on that.

yeah, i can't wait to go to the open days! that'l lhopefully finalise things for me.

thanks giddycat88, yeah, I'm sticking with UTS. I was just gonna ask everyone one more time, just in case.

thanks people. <3

and bobness, S&C is (hopefully) easy. it's only a 2 hour exam after all..
though saying saying, that, I hope it is easy... :)

an old friend (who is a stupid skank now but that's the beside point) does media comm at sydney.

she's always talking about how happy she is with it HOWEVER she then explains that her friends in the course have a had a myriad of problems with it for one reason or another. One girl's even transferring to UTS apparently.

only reason she loves it? she's a USyd slut and has been since she was born. no literally, her parents went there, her grandparents went there, her siblings went there, her cousins ARE there.

so there's some perspective i guess.

for some reason, I like your perspectives. I like extremity, both ways :p

I remember what you've said before as well.

Tulipa, have you read my ee2 major work yet? I want to know your opinions!!
