1. Can you use "SMH" etc as an abbreviation?
2. Is it alright if you just put "Article Name (SMH Sept 2009)" or is it better to write "which featured in the SMH in September 2009".

I'm pretty sure you can use the abbreviation.

I've read quite a few of the band 5/6 exempler essays on the BOS website and most of the candidates just put SMH

It'll save you time so thats a bonus.
