Asian cinema (1 Viewer)

I don't know if this has been done before, but I just had to start a thread on this to see how many people are interested. I'm Chinese, so I've seen a fair few over the years, but just recently I was absolutely blown away by Wong Kar-Wai's In the Mood for Love

These are the ones I remember having seen

Hong Kong

Infernal Affairs- Excellent
Infernal Affairs 2- Very average
Infernal Affairs 3- Good
Running Out of Time- Average
Magic Kitchen- Average
In the Mood For Love- Excellent

China

Ying Xiong (Hero)-Rubbish. Its overratedness is only surpassed by LotR, which is more overrated, but also much better
Raise the Red Lantern- Excellent
The Blue Kite- Good
To Live- Good
Chinese Ghost Story- I didn't know it was porn, I swear!
Chinese Ghost Story 2
Chinese Ghost Story 3

Taiwan (or Ang Lee, not sure whether he's Taiwanese or Chinese)

Eat Drink Man Woman- Very Good
Wo Hu Cang Long (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon)- Probably a bit less overrated than Hero, but still very overrated

Japan

Ringu- Good
The Curse- Good
The Seven Samurai- Very Good
Ikiru- Better than Seven Samurai

Anyhow by far the best of these.. with the possible except of Seven Samurai and Ikiru, is In the Mood for Love. Never seen such a wonderful romance film. Simply beautiful. Feel free to talk about Asian movies here

do u mean the one right at the front of market city?......where u get off the escalators and next to the H2O store?......if so i've been there b4 too and brought 3 dvd's.....
they're supposedly "filmed" inside the cinemas in china/.......lol
the mandarin is alright but when u switch it to canto, u have to put the tv on full blast to hear what they say!

ive only liked the jackie chan films esp 'twin dragons' and the police story series

doesnt ring a bell, i missed that damn jackie chan festival marathon on SBS a couple of yrs ago they should do it again.

btw unrelated to asian cinema has anybody seen the hilarious dutch series 'the flooders'?

I've seen 'Fallen Angels' supposed to be an 'art film'. It was good very emotional and had some good shoot-out scenes even though its not an action movie. The cinematography is excellent. I wanna see 'Chungking express' which was from the same director.

No I think Erotic Ghost Story is a different movie, the one I watched was definitely Chinese Ghost Story, besides I was being ironic, apparently no one picked up on that.

Wong Kar-Wai is the name of the director you're looking for, and I'm also a fan of his movies... so far. In the Mood for Love is the only one I've seen, but I'd be very interested in others, especially Chungking Express
