does anyone know if we talk about dna replication here aswell or only meiosis/mitosis

It seems that you would need to cover both. I have found information that falls under the "Assess the effect of the cell replication processes on the continuity of species" syllabus dot point:

Significance of DNA replication:
  • Identical copies of the genes can be made so the daughter cells have the necessary coded instructions that control the basic life functions of the cell
  • Heredity - relies on DNA replication
  • Growth, repair and maintenance of an organism
  • Gene expression - relies on protein synthesis
  • Exact copy so replication occurs – mutations may have a direct effect on phenotype
  • Mutation- whilst some mutations can be lethal, mutation is the source of new alleles which ultimately leads to variation within a species.
Effect of Mitosis on Continuity of Species:
  • Mitosis is the driving force for the cells to grow that results on the overall growth of organisms. If it weren’t for mitosis, no organism would have reached the ideal size and shape for it to survive in the environment.
  • Life of most multicellular organisms begins from a single cell termed as Zygote. Without mitosis, a zygote would never be able to transform into a complete adult organism.
  • Maintains the equality of chromosomes in number and similarity in characteristics throughout all the cells.
  • In both plants and animals’ mitosis cell division leads to the formation of new organs.
  • Mitosis helps in retaining purity of types because usually recombination and mutation does not occur during Mitosis cell division.
  • Helps in regenerating new tissues by replacing old ones (example: gut epithelial cells and blood cells).
Effect of Meiosis on Continuity of Species:
  • Helps in formation of haploid gametes for carrying out sexual reproduction.
  • Plays a vital role in maintaining ideal number of chromosomes in organisms.
  • Introduces new characteristics in organisms as a result of recombination due to crossing over.
  • Due to meiosis cell division, when haploid gametes unite to form zygotes, the zygote possesses 50% trait from the mother and the rest 50% from the father.
