I'm definitely aware of the mark penalties, in fact, I don't even mind if they award me a 0 - I'm handing it in on Monday.

I'm just trying to avoid an absent fail here.

It is a first-year Philosophy assignment, an essay worth 30%.

Special Consideration was not an option as the circumstances that kept me from completing the assignment did not qualify under any of its categories.

Help :(

I don't undertand how something that caused you to be that late with it couldn't get special consideration. The categories are pretty broad.

I know with the essay I have due on Monday, if it's more than 4 days late you get a fail, but apparently philosophy and that are more lenient..

Thanks for the responses.

Special consideration isn't very broad.
Unless you have an unforeseen or significant medical disturbance or have experienced a severe crime or bereavement, then apparently, you do not qualify.

Unfortunately, human experiences tend to wander in greys and unless they are specifically encapsulated within those categories, they are deemed as unimportant or passive.

All we can do is 'man the fuck up'.

When extended family members were sick and I had to keep travelling to Victoria they were really cool with it and helped me out a lot.

PS Talking to the actual lecturers before going through the special consideration process is best, some didn't even make me apply for some parts.

I agree with this. A lot of lecturers if you talk to them will give you an extension or something if you explain what is going on, without you needing to go through the special consideration applications. Just talk to them and explain what has been going on and how it has been affecting your uni work. The only things they tend to be more difficult about are reasons to do with outside work commitments etc. In any case, nothing can really go wrong with just talking to the lecturer in person.

guys don't be so hard on him lol

well best idea would be talk to dean directly
probably don't need to go to the dean quite yet. Talk to your course lecturer/coordinator in the first instance.
