i have the same prob too... most of my friends plan to stay in Sydney. It's hard to leave them behind, but you have to do what's right for YOU i guess. just have to think abt the long term.. it'll be worth it in the end.

me too... but I suppose leaving your friends behind is inevitable..oh yeah..I want to do BCom/BSci or BActuarial Studies...does anyone know about their reputation in Actuarial Studies? , has anyone applied for any of the ANU scholarships on offer? and just one more... has anyone seen the colleges first hand?

I've heard that the ANU (as does UNSW) has a strong finance program - which is why I'm going to the ANU. i plan to do Bcom/LLB. the ANU also has a bachelor of finance - but too bad it can't be done in conjunction w/ another degree..

i applied for the 'ANU National Undergraduate Scholarship'. not sure of my chances of getting it tho.. i haven't seen the colleges first hand, but I'm going to apply to Burgmann.. think i'll go and visit after religion exam.

Are you sure about the finance part because they were offering BActuarial Studies/ BFinance? I applied for 'International Undergraduate Scholarship'... the problem is I live in Sydney and I only want to go to ANU if I get the scholarship and I don't know when they start notifying people... hopefully before the main round so I can change preferences.. if anyone does get a chance to look at the colleges do you guys mind posting it here...

well they base the undergraduate scholarships basically wholly on the uai or ur hsc results (which is kinda bad for me). so you would hav to assume that they would notify you pretty soon after you get your results if they just go to the top of the list and see who got the top out of who applied.
i went to most of the colleges down there. the lady who did the presentation on the different accommodations said that each one has it's own distinct lifestyle, like john xxiii is basically full of jocks, compared to ursula which is pretty religious. so it might be good to go down and have a look and talk 2 some people who go to them...

it wasn't that bad... it was really secure inside... to get upstairs to the residences you hav to go through these metal gates which are alarmed if they stay open for more than about 20 seconds.... umm... a couple of computer labs.... cheapest drinks at the bar.... out of the ones that provide food, apparently the best (well you would hope so with the price that they charge)....
i wasn't really that impressed for some reason... i guess i was just really taken with burton + garren.... altho every1 i met throughout the day was really nice...

yeah there's something about burton+garren.. but I cant cook so if I live there I would probably have to survive on cereal and two minute noodles... :D

LLB= Bachelor of Laws :) i don't plan to practice law though..

which college/hall has the best tutorial system (taking into account the size of the college/hall)

well i don't think i've got much choice but to go for burgmann cos i can't cook.. like anomaly, i'd be living on 2 min noodles, cereal and toast :) ursula seems too religious for me. i think that burgmann's charges kind of include pretty much everything, so it still is cheaper than living in syd (eg. the wkly fees would barely cover a studio apartment). i guess a drawback would be the lack of flexibility. in the end it doesn't really matter which college/hall u go to.. u still end up w/ a degree from the ANU.:)

i heard that everything in canberra closes pretty early.. true?

hmmm.. i shld be studying for religion!!! grrr:mad:

fenner is off campus.... i think it's a couple of kilometres away... it looked ok, but i just thought that if (knowing canberra) it was raining or really bad weather... i really wouldn't want to be riding my bike or walking down to the anu campus...
but i think i'll put it as my second preference cos it's pretty cheap and it's not catered...

went to Canberra yesterday.. visited Burgmann and Johns. I've decided to stick with Burgmann. Burgmann appears to have more flexibility than Johns.. eg ppl have a choice whether they want segregated (male & female separate) or integrated bathrooms (unisex). the rooms were of an ok size. there also seems to be quite a bit happening socially. teh formal dinners for each faculty also seem quite good. Justice Kirby was the guest speaker for the last law dinner.

on canberra.. well it certainly hasn't gotten anymore exciting.. it does look a little more decent.. the social side really isn't happening. not sure how I'll survive 5 yrs there. An old House Tutor of mine grew up in Canberra and reckons it's a good place to power ahead w/ studies. hopefully it won't be as boring as it looks..:(
