Letter arrived today, though apparently recipients aren't supposed to talk to the media (not that there's really any reason to talk to the media) until your local MP gets a chance to announce it and bignote himself later in the year.

Anyone else get one?

The actual rationale behind it is "the top 500 students in Australia" ... they award some to Olympiad medal winners, then apportion the rest out to the states to award. Thus the criteria can change each year, but for the past couple of years at least, it does seem to be given for HSC marks of 93+ in 10 or more units. Because these are aligned, not scaled, marks, it doesn't exactly correlate with UAI.

I don't think the criteria they use is that simple, and I don't think we'll ever find out what the criteria actually is (unless someone wants to go and work for the education department and find out).

I can assure you that this year, the criteria is not 93+ in 10 or more units.
OK ... that would seem sensible. Possibly, they do take some form of scaling into account. For reference, I got 93+ in 13 units and 94+ in 9.

they should take subjects into account too
and there should be a tick box whether you had tutors..

Could one of you actually ask about the criteria when you receive the award, please? :)

the criteria for this must be really strange as I only got >90 in 9units
and even then, only 7units were above >94

....anyone know how long it takes before we receive our mooolah?

It's possible that they take the top X students based on their scaled aggregate.

Apparently it's not associated with one's UAI though, although I guess it does mean that some people with the same UAI will get the award, while others won't.

Maybe it's an aggregate of aligned marks
