accounting is more specialised and the degree is recognized by CA and CPA.
and 3rd yr accounting can get more difficult than just plain commerce (because of 300 level accounting core subjects)

i explained this in a previous thread...

You can make BCom exactly like BCom Accounting, except you cant do ACCG323...which means u have to do that as a bridging course to pursue CA/CPA

You can major in finance/busl/economics etc with BCom...and choose those accg 200 level and 300 level subjects if you wish...

CharlieB what was your UAI?

If you have 90+ consider the double degree Accg/AppFin.

In your preferences, put the degree you most want to do first. So if thats the double or the major in accoutning put that first. If you dont get it you'll get second/third/4th etc.

96.65, so uai-wise i should be right. I want a law background just in case. I was wondering if i did a b commerce/accounting- b law degree and miss out on that subject, what are my chances of transferring after first year to say b commerce/ b law at unsw.

oh shit u did really well...

You could do this in a couple of ways.

BComAccg/Law @ MQ
BCom(Fin)/Law @ MQ
BAppFin/Law @ MQ

You'll get into the above stragiht away most probably, then you can stay at Mq or after first year, make sure your gpa is high, and transfer through UAC. They will consider half uai and half GPA.

Credit to Distinction (more so Distinction) Average will give you a good chance at transferring, because there are going to be heaps of people going for it...but the thing is, its going to be hard to get in...so theres no guarantee

Alternatively, you can go to UNSW and do a BCom in accounting or finance or whatever. You might be able to transfer internally, best to ask about that in the UNSW forums.

UTS offers a BBus/LLB which requires high 97 to 98...

N.B. These posts are my opinion and as such cannot be taken as gospel. Please seek the advice of other members/do some research, before you come to a decision. That goes for you too CharlieB

I really dont want to mislead you kids, so remember opinions are provided only. I also strongly advise both of you to go to wahtever Info Days the university has.

Monstar, i dont know anything about you...your interests (except you like JayZ which is good :p), what your good at etc.

On the assumption that you got roughly 90-91, and that you like the prospect of working as an accountant (auditing/tax/consulting etc) or as an analyst etc in finance, then yes, go for it.

If you dont want to do Accounting, but still like finance, I can recommend the seemingly more difficult (in my opinion) Economics/Applied Finance double.

Or you can always combine BBA (business administration) with something but I dont know too much about that, the other members of these forums do though.

It comes down to what you want to do when you finish. To tell you the truth, it really doesn;t matter too much, as you can transfer internally, and companies seek grades and extra curricular mainly.

Be careful with your preferences Monstar, as in put it in the order of what you really want to do.

hey thanks alot supra. I hear that if you don't/can't transfer after first year your units become void and you can't transfer + doing b comm at unsw and trying to transfer, ill will have to catch up on law subjects.

Looks like comm/law at macq for me.

IMO, accg and finance is the least satisfying out of all the subjects... economcs is the most satisfying out of the ECFS.

It really depends on what u like...if u know what is accounting and what it really involves, and still like it, go ahead and achieve what u want.

BUT, if havent tasted it and still iffy about it, i suggest u think it through. Accg was the mst demanding subject in my 1st year.
