Hey UNSW students. I really really would like to know about people doing a b/economics at UNSW. Is it like a lower alternative(in regards to UAIs - cutoffs for eco:90.15 yet 95 for commerce) for those who wanted to do a B/commerce but did not have a high enough UAI?? Because to me the courses seem pretty much the same.

Also, im hearing that UNSW is the best for accounting. Can i major in accounting in a b/economics degree?? If so, will this give me professional recognition for CA/CPA programs?

Much appreciated....

Seriously, if you read the information on the website, that is www.fce.unsw.edu.au , then I’m sure you can figure it out. Also I saw you posted the exact same question for USyd.

Anyway to answer your question, yes you can fit in the subjects for Accounting for professional recognition for CA, or CPA. The only thing is it’s a pretty tight fit.

The only difference between a B Com and B Eco is that you have to do a Major from the School of Economics in the B Eco.

“A double major of 90 units of credit, with at least 48 units of credit in one of the Economics, Econometrics, Financial Economics and Economic History disciplinary streams, with at least 2 options from List B below and at least 42 units of credit in another approved disciplinary stream.”

“In addition to the disciplines listed above, co-majors or minors are available in:
• Accounting
• Asian Studies
• Business Law
• Finance
• Human Resource Management
• Industrial Relations
• Information Systems
• International Business
• Management
• Marketing
• Modern Languages
• Taxation”
You should also note that at UNSW the accounting subjects are core and you must complete them.
My advice would be for you to go and have a look at the sites of each uni.

If you do well in your 1st year (say high credit to distinction average), there's a strong chance that you'd be successful in transferring from BEc to BCom

Yeh well 1.) i posted the same question on USYD so people from that UNI would read it, and here so that UNSW people would read it.
2.) Yes, i scanned like the whole UNSW & USYD site, however i'd like to hear from actual uni students rather than base my choice on something i read on the net which may be wrong. And before you tell me, i am aware of the info day on the 5th.

Well, I was one of those people.

I was doing a BEc in 1st year, and I transferred to BCom in 2nd year with a distinction average

And the info day is on the 4th
