hey ppl, i'm heaps interested in chiro too, im in yr 12 at the moment and im really lookin into it. Can i just ask u guys is it a very popular subject?, i mean are there heaps of ppl doin it? Also wat is the ratio of girls to guys? If ther are heaps of ppl doin it does that mean opportunity to be successful is kinda hard? Is the course demanding? my dad says its more applied sciences like knowledge of the body ect but is there harder stuff to it? Lastly is insurance a big issue in practicing, you would prob have to pay quite a hefty fee for that wouldnt u? oh yea 1 more thing, im into basketball and i know those playaz have big ass backs so have u known of any graduates like going on to become specificly sports chiro's?

yeh u do...
in first year u do 2 chem subjects... organic chem in 2nd semester, and general chem in 1st semester.

hmm popular? not as popular as the commercy subjects @ macq and physio @ usyd... there isnt that many ppl doing it overall to seriously influence the job potential as apparently chiropractic is the 3rd largest healing profession after medicine and denistry.

there seems to be more chicks than guys but i think the numbers are pretty much equal.

the course is semi demanding... it takes quite a bit of cramming to know ur anatomy and shite but depends on how u approach ur studies.
im not really su re what u mean by what ur dad said, but chiro is simply like a physio but with just more stuff added on. (i say like a physio loosely, obviously we have areas where we overlap and specialist areas).
Insurance is surprisingly pretty cheap. 2.5k was the figure i heard which is cheaper than most other medical practices.

About specialising in sporting fields i dont know anyone but sounds a bit iffy... unlike physio we usually dont do our adjustments and stuff on the spot/field/court.. and besides not all sport players need chiropractic treatment so i guess u'll be limiting urself to only a few patients... but just my opinion... i dont really know...

cbf thinking so off top of head:

- need masters degree.. therefore extra 2 years....
- bad reputation...
- some 2nd/3rd year courses are done at USYD (lidcombe campus) so gotta trevel around abit
- no/limited medicare...
- occassionally have to overload subjects... (+ science pracs are bloody long and compulsory)

my friend does chiro
his textbook can literally subsitute a 20kg bench press weight. it makes the yellow pages look like a pocket diary.

with that being said...chiro ppl all look like they're bluding and having a good time. *wishes did chiro*
