Re: Bachelor of Accounting Scholarship UTS 2015

Co-ops are just a way to try different organisations and experience the role you'll have in them. The key thing to step back and remember is accounting is just like any other specialised back-office function in that it can be a support function of a business (e.g. the accounting department at a company which does the books and tax returns), it can be part of the business (e.g. the finance function in a modern organisation to help make strategic decisions) or it can be the revenue generating business (e.g. in an accounting firm, the accounting services are provided for other organisations for a fee). A cadetship essentially locks you into the latter where you're doing it for the benefit of clients and with that comes a different mindset/focus and level you'll need to operate at which may or may not be what you're interested in.

I don't really have a view on UTS vs UNSW coop nowadays- both are great programs with great sponsors, and have slightly different timeframes/benefits as a result. I will add that BAcc coop always seems very tightly knit and is very well known in the industry.

As for career progression, this comes back to the first point in terms of the role of accounting in the particular organisation and with that, comes different 'business cases' to justify the costs or business need for offering progression.

I've heard people in the low 80s, however they had excellent extra curricular activities

Like drifting said I think I've heard someone with around 86 go in as well but he was exceptional in his other stuff. They don't really tell you who was the lowest per year, it's usually from word of mouth of whoever decided to share their ATAR as a BaCC. I know one or two from BoS here that got a conditional offer already. If you've gotten a conditional offer already they'll very likely take you in even if you fall short of the usual 91 entry that normal B.bus requires (which is the same course except BaCC goes faster(plus work exp and cash grant).

Hey chronost,

The letter I got said I would need 95 atar for a guaranteed spot in the BACC course as I got a conditional offer.
Also, I have heard if you do not make the 95 atar cut off and you got a conditional offer, then your place is offered to a person on the reserve list that got 95 atar???
I feel that I will get around a 94+ atar
Cheers for any help

Ps. Did you get into BACC???

They might've changed it around since, but last year i know a person who got in with high 80s. I think you should be just fine if you're thinking you'll sit around the 94 area.

Gotten to reserve list, never paid attention to it though since I already had a cadetship offer then.

You never know to be honest. I made the silly decision of not even bothering to apply for this because i thought i wouldn't make the cut off (stupid i know). As things eventuated, i got well beyond the cut off so there is always the possibly that you are underestimating yourself.

Good luck with your application

500.

(it's based on absolutely no fact whatsoever but it's still an estimate, and I'm going to bet that any other estimate on here would have been based on the same robust data)

Re: Bachelor of Accounting Scholarship UTS 2015

Lol what????? That's the number of people who get an interview. Obviously a large number of the 500 people who got interviewed must be cut from the reserve list. In theory, this list should be made up of applicants who just missed the cut. E.g. 25-50 people

If I don't know the number of people on the reserve list, I'm 99% sure noone else who is likely to post on BoS does either (with any certainty).

Haven't heard any hard and fast rule on this- usually each case is considered on a case by case basis. That being said, the ATAR requirement isn't a rule either.

Hey guys,

Do you reckon many people who got guaranteed offers but did not make the atar cut off get in.

Also, how many people could you guess would reject a BACC offer as they got a better offer elsewhere (e.g. Law, Medicine, UNSW Co-op)

Thanks for any help

Your guess will be as good as anyone else's here, that's what seremify has been trying to say this whole time about these sort of questions you ask.

My advice would be don't try to guess your odds of getting an offer. Getting into BAcc, UNSW Coop or a cadetship shouldn't change what you plan to study at university. i.e. I'd be putting down my prefs for business/commerce regardless.
