Isn't the interview just a pass/fail type system where they deem if you are acceptable or not? From the letter what I understand, I've passed the interview stage and now they'll just pick as many students as they have sponsors heading from the top UAI down until all the spaces are filled (and in the past the lowest has been somewhere between 92 and 94).
thats exactly right.

Call Back Info

Hey there,

You will most probably receive a call from Des, industry liaison pretty much straight after receiving your UAI (is it tomorrow?)

Don't panic if you don't get a call immediately, if they want you, you will be contacted somehow.

Btw, did you all receive some sort of Christmas card from Bach. of IT Group? (BiG)?

Hope it reached you guys in time.

Good luck for the call back thing.....its nerve racking...make sure you think thoroughly the pros and cons for both BIT at UTS or UNSW, UTS does have a better recognised course in the IT industry...

Good luck again.

yeh.. but it seemed so disorganised.. the attitude was so depserte in terms of sponsors... like they were dying to get more... there was no exclusiveness if they could get 50 spnosors then they would... i mean why.... and also they advised me to consider the other courses at the university with a mad advertising pitch i was like shutup u imbocile i dunt give a shit about those... im applying for a scholarshhip i think i have enough skill to research it myself... stop insulting ur own program...

it was in some shitty office... bachelor of accounting... now thats style.... thats prestige thats something special over there.... cmon IT... get ur act together

Well maybe their attitude to gain more sponsors could get YOU the spot for BIT. You just have to realise how much of an advantage and acceleration to your career achievements, this course will get you. So I would by pass the disorganised nature they portray and appreciate the opportunity you have, if you make it into BIT, I am sure you will say the same thing.

Good luck!

I got the Christmas card, was sort of funny - coming from UTS and all.
I noticed it was a Charity Greeting Card which seemed nice.

So I need 94 to get into UTS BIT though my 2003 UAI is 93.45. Hmm... maybe I can just scrape in?

Yeah, it's a bit tense now. My 2003 UAI estimate was 96.40, but I think I'll be looking at something between 94 and 95 based on what the BOS have released about the number of students in each band. With any luck I can scrape in too.. fingers crossed.

To be honest, I don't think UAI is all that important (well sorta, but not really) for entry into BIT.

A person who performed outstandingly well in their interviews, would probably be offered a position even if their UAI was 91 or 92...etc. Probably telling you stuff that 'quesara' had already mentioned. (I know who you are!!!! 'quesara')

So either way, good luck to you guys again, Des will eventually call you if you get a placement.

Oh, good good, you got the Christmas Cards. Hehehehe. hehehe...they look good yehyeh? hehehe/

Looking forward to see who the 2005 BITs are!

Don't forget to enjoy your holidays!

Now it's a wait until Monday for that phone call...

Definately the BScIT/DipITPP (605000) with a sub-major in Internetworking. Plenty of networking and no maths.

thx so much. i spent so much time reviewing all the uts IT courses, but i somehow missed this one. im thinking of moving it to my 2nd pref. BUT i am also considering the bus/IT degree and the IT innovation degree. what are your thoughts on these courses? how are they different? I am not from syd, but I checked out "building 10" when i came up for my BIT interview and it looks nice. do the other sydney uni's have facilities this good? wat other options are there apart from UTS?

I didnt really investigate much of this b4 now, because i thought that my UAI would decide which uni i would go to (rather than ME deciding). but with my 92.25 (which i didnt expect) can i almost take my pick. What other avenues should i investigate?

thx

Well besides the BScIT course, there are obviously the other courses you have mentioned, such as the BBus/BComp, which is what I'm doing and the BScIT Innovation course. They are both good courses.

The BScIT is probably the most technically oriented course though. The BScIT Innovation course combined the main IT core subjects from BScIT as well as some foundation engineering and business subjects to give you a basic understanding on how to basically market and sell your own IT products. It's mainly for people who want to develop their own products, though depending on what electives you do in that course, it can be similar to the BScIT and most people who graduated from that course this year seem to be going down the same pathways as the BScIT graduates anyways.

As for the BBus/BComp, it is obviously a lot different, but the computing side is the same. Basically you learn the same stuff as you would in the BScIT, except for a few subjects, and you still do an IT sub-major as you would in the BScIT, so you can still specialise. On the BBus side, you basically do the same core subjects as the single BBus degree and you do 1 business major (such as Accounting, Finance, Economics, etc). So basically its 2 years of IT and 2 years of Business, mixed in together (ie. 2 IT subjects and 2 Business subjects per semester). Combined degrees are pretty popular nowadays and employer's like graduates who have skills in 2 different areas. There are some other posts by myself and other people around here which explain this course in more detail.

The other combined degree's available are BScIT/LLB (which is a bit high for your UAI :p) and the BScIT/BAIntStud. If you're interested in International Studies as well then you might want to consider this one too.

As for the Building, I'd say its the best IT building around at the moment, though thats my personal opinion.

Besides UTS, all the other Sydney uni's offer some sort of Computer Science or IT course, however, trying not to be biased, graduates from a UTS IT degree are highly regarded by employer's at the moment and this is proven by the job statistics for UTS IT graduates. The UTS IT courses are pretty hands on and practical and it is taught in that way as well.

As for other avenue's, I'm not sure what else I can say. I've given you quite a few choices. I would personally recommend you do IT at UTS, but thats just my opinion. If you really want to do Networking then do the BScIT. If you're interested in Business as well then do the BBus/BComp.

Have a look at the details course information at:
