Bachelor Of Clinical Science At MQ (1 Viewer)

Howdy!

As some of you probably know, I've been eyeing the B.ClinicalScience at MQ.

However, after reflecting on the insights provided by others, I've raised a few questions which I'm hoping can be answered to some extent.

I am wondering how many people graduate from the Bachelor Of Clinical Science and end up in medicine. I tried looking for databases with registered / accredited doctors to see which ones had studied at MQ, however, I had no success. I also had a look at the MQ website, but no luck there either...

I know two people personally who have gone into medicine after B.ClinicalScience at MQ, but I'd like more information and more strength in numbers.

I wanna know this too please (someone ANYONE) like I’m doubting I’m going to get into med so like 3rd option I’ve heard 80% of people get into med but apparently a lot of people drop out. It’s just gamsat is risky asf and I think this would be better than medical science right…?

r u talking abt 80% of applicants getting in? bc that's REALLY false
for the drop out bit, its mostly due to a) the mental burden (for the shit amt of pay that registrars and fellows get, the stress and emotional burden is absolutely ridiculous) and b) the lack of job security (most newly-certified doctors are forced to locum at different hospitals every week instead of having a secure job at either a clinic, hospital, or medical centre bc the hospitals arent willing to pay doctors that don't bring an influx of patients, i can explain this a bit more if u want its kind of a lengthy process)

ofc med is better medical science bc theres literally no job u can get in med sci apart from research or lab work, ppl rarely want to voluntarily dedicate 3 yrs of their uni life to med sci just bc they love it, majority do it to get a shot at postgrad. gamsat and ucat are always risky, u can have a high gamsat and high gpa but still get rejected bc u stuffed the interview, theres a lot of different factors at play

My brother got an 87 ATAR, went to MQ to study Clinical Science, took the GAMSAT and got 64 the 1st try and then took it again and got 70. He's now about to start medicine next year at USYD, so it's possible

I think only top 3 in his cohort got an offer to study medicine in Sydney, maybe more outside of Syd.

I think his GPA was 6.9/7 or something cause he messed up like one assessment, but not sure about his WAM

Im not interested in med but imo if you manage to get into medicine straight out of high school I’d just take it over doing this pathway with MQ, like beggars can’t be choosers and it would reduce a lot of the risk and pressure of relying on gamsat and gpa

Hey I’m also considering this course to eventually get into med but have read some pretty negative stuff online about it which has kinda spooked me, I think the main problem people have with it was the fact it’s accelerated so the content feels kinda rushed and stretches over the holidays. I really don’t know whether to go with this course, would appreciate hearing any more about it

yea ik but i read somewhere that the success rate is 15% or smth, so a lot of ppl have to do the test more than once

Tru considering that it’s a 6 hr test but every uni has its specific cutoff criteria, eg utas has a much higher success threshold compared to macq

Personally, I'm interested in doing postgraduate medicine as it gives me more time to think about specialisation and all that. If you're definitely set on medicine, I'd recommend you go for undergraduate medicine at a different university, but keep in mind, you will need to do UCAT for entry into most of them. MQ University can always be a different pathway in case you don't qualify for undergraduate. My experience at MQ in terms of learning, the people and the lecturers has been nothing but positive, so ultimately, it depends on you as a person. I'm used to accelerated content and prefer it that way which is why this course happens to be optimal for me.

The reason it stretches over the holidays, I believe, is because some units occur over Session 3 at MQ which is meant for "intensive" units where units which would usually take 4-5 months to teach, are consolidated into 2-3 months. There will always be negative reviews, but it's up to you to determine whether to follow through on those or make a decision for yourself.

Yeah thank you that’s helpful, I got an ATAR in the early 90s this year so I don’t qualify for any of the undergrad courses I applied for sadly so looking to pathways now- I am also considering Biomedicine in Bond uni as a pathway (also two years) which I’m weighing against MQ. Either way GAMSAT is inevitable ._.
