Hey everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone currently completing/completed the degree can give me some insight. I intend [circumstances prevailing] to enter this degree upon completion of HSC.. Probably at UOW or ACU..

1. Could someone give a list of subjects for the course/ what they entail?
2. What type of exams/ assignments are done?
3. Any tips/strategies?
4. How do you progress to do honours, a Masters and furthermore a PhD? (timeframes/subjects/assignments? etc)
5. If someone can be so sweet as to answer this massive list, I will be greatly appreciative!

Cheers,

Noddy! :D

Regarding UOW
1. here's a link to the subjects for the course. It'll give you an idea of the degree structure. You can find more info on the subjects on the UOW website.
2. The assignments within the degree are primarily essays/reports/presentations/lesson plans & programs. Obviously the types of assignments vary between the subjects. There are some exams within the degree (again varying between subjects), but the education faculty doesn't believe in a large number of exams and unlike some other faculties it isn't standard to have mid semester and end of semester exams.
3. Find out about both unis courses, ask around & talk to people and decide which one suits you best.
4. Application - obviously only a number of students can do honours so generally a decent mark is recommended (distinction average) and yes not every student who applies for honours is accepted. More info on honours here.

I'm doing education at UOW so if you have any questions feel free to ask me :)
Thanks heaps! That reply was way quick too! nice..

And without wings, you wouldn't happen to be like a guide or anything are you?
There is one girl that is like the famous chick of education at uow..
I went on a tour of the uni, and this chick was the guide, and i went to discovery days, and this chick was doing that too!!!

haha..

I do B Ed (Primary) at ACU and I'd recommend it because..
- Free Parking
- Strathfield is pretty central to everything
- Nice looking campus
- Religion is incorporated into the course so you can teach in both Catholic and Public Schools
- Small campus- the people are the same in all of your lectures/tutorials so you build a close relationship with your course
- Common time- always something going on and it is good to socialise with your friends on campus
- National University- there are campuses in the ACT, Victoria and Qld with opportunities for travel and exchange if you wish to get involved (for example I travelled to the Brisbane Campus for the Big Event last year.

Our undergraduate course guide is available at this link..

Please re-assess your spelling skills before entering university in a teaching degree.

Apparently CSU is a nice campus and often has quite a number of targeted grads (in the primary arena).

Give them a break.. they are just typing shorthand to make it quicker.. Obviously they don't spell like this generally, it is just internet lingo.. Maybe you should read up on this, and possibly even learn some for yourself ;)

Read the basic skills tests lately?? Kids DO spell like that, and its becoming a problem. How can you give marks to a child who has written a brilliant piece of creative writing, but has also used internet shorthand?? And if you do, how is that fair to the other students who have spelled all of their words correctly??

Totally understand using it to make typing quicker, I'm guilty of it myself, my concern is, however, people who use that language everyday IN ALL OF THEIR WRITING who are entering the teaching profession.

I agree completely, but who is to say that the person in question doesn't only use this form of shorthand for forum/internet purposes? I have also found an article that extrapolates teacher opinion from the 2006 english HSC, which found that many year 12 students are using shorthand in their essays! In such cases, I agree that it can be dangerous as those entering teaching as a profession may pass this on to students. Albeit, however, I find it to be somewhat hypocritical that you are taking a stab at a student when you have, in fact, admitted to being guilty of it YOURSELF.

Opinion expressed,

Cheers..

Noddy :)

There's a time and a place for internet shorthand. The classroom is not one of these times or places.
