Can you have a class that finishes the same time as another starts?

Absolutely. I've had 7 hours in a row, and I have friends who had even worse.

Imagine what an engineering or science timetable would look like if you couldn't have back to back classes (there's normally 25 class hours, without breaks).

You can, and will have that but if you do make sure that you only do it for classes that are close to each other and not on opposite ends of campus, otherwise you will always have to leave early, or always be arriving late.

Only avoid sticking tuts which are halfway across the uni (rip me walking from maths red centre building to samuels biomed building) cause that's where attendance matters and some tutors can be a dick and mark you absent if you arrive 15mins (OR EARLIER) or so late.
