I haven't been able to get a hold of the Guild's official election publication, so this is not quite complete, I'll make an update or two on Monday/Tuesday. These are in the same order that they are on the ballot, I didn't choose the order. If you have a question, post it here and I'll do my best to answer it as objectively as possible.
Guild elections are usually more political than Union elections. You tend to get a presidential candidate who builds a ticket around them to run. It therefore tends to be very top-down orientated, with those at the top calling the shots, with dessention being rare (though it has happened - in 2004 the Tharunka editors openly critised the Guild Administration, to the extent that they were censored by the Guild President).
These tickets are almost always linked to some faction, akin to a political party, though only loosely. The best way to explain this is to check out the articles at wikipedia on NUS Factions
And the candidates/tickets are:
Young and Dangerous
NUS Faction: N/A
Presidential Candidate: Vincent Leung
Description: Does not looks like a serious ticket. No candidates for Media Director, Environment Committee or Women's Committee.
Change
NUS Faction: Student Unity (Labor Right)
Presidential Candidate: Susie Havyatt. Unsuccessfully ran for Women's Director last year with the Vision ticket (also aligned with Unity).
Description: One of three serious groups running. Unity linked tickets controled the Guild from 2002-04, losing it to Power (a NOLS linked ticket) this year. They will be hoping to win back the Guild for next year. It has a significant number of candidates who have been yellow shirts and/or involved in university theatre (revue/NUTS).
Stop VSU
NUS Faction: N/A
Presidential Candidate: Andrew Carruthers
Description: Does not looks like a serious ticket. No candidates for Women's Director, Secretary/Treasurer, Media Director, Environment Committee or Women's Committee.
Action
NUS Faction: Australian Liberal Students Federation (Liberal Left)
Presidential Candidate: Kate Schouten. Current Women's Director for the Guild. Elected last year with the Power ticket, so she has shifted from a Labor-Left aligned ticket to a Liberal-Left aligned ticket.
Description: No Liberal Party linked tickets have run since 2003, when they finished 3rd behind Students First (Unity) and Power (NOLS). They tend to support VSU and oppose NUS and usually gain only a minority of the votes.
Voice
NUS Faction: National Organisation of Labor Students (Labor Left)
Presidential Candidate: Xaviar O'Halloran. Currently writes for Tharunka on politics. Campaigned last year for Power (a NOLS/NBL linked ticket).
Description: I'm not sure if this is still a broad left coalition (NOLS/NBL) or just a NOLS linked ticket. NOLS linked tickets ran in 2003 and 2004. In 2003 they were disqualified in what turned out to be a very controversial election, then went on to win in 2004 which put them in power for this year. As the Power name seems to be getting old they have chosen the new banner of Voice to campaign under.

NUS Faction: N/A
Presidential Candidate: Alistair Wallace
Description: Does not looks like a serious ticket. No candidates for VP, Secretary/Treasurer, Media Director, Environment Committee, Women's Committee or Council.
