Yeah, 85 sounds about right.

Although above 90 would also be reasonable.

Its not scaling at all. Its called either aligning or moderating (can't remember which is which). Scaling happens after and we don't get to find out our scaled mark. I think the band 6 cutoff was about 85.

ok, so say it was 85;

if i got an 85 in the hsc exam( before that whole scaling thing) and was ranked 1st from school with an assessment mark of 93, what would my overall hsc mark most likely be?

would my assessment mark drop down to 80's?

ohhhhhhhhhh ok so like if you get a 70 in the exam (which is what im hoping for, thats a good mark for me), but i get like 97% for assessments does mean it would bring my hsc mark and therefore my uai up?
cos that'd be so cool,

no

you'd need a school mark lower than your exam mark
otherwise BOS thinks that your school marks really easily

so if you've been gettin 97%s you'll have to improve on that
to get scaled well :D goodluck on that

The thing is if your school marks harder than BOS
chances are you will get a good mark...
but since you were aiming for 70 I dont know...

A result like that wouldnt take your mark down
if the rest of the state thought it was hard as well
so if you stayed in the top say 10% of the state,
I dont think they'd scale your school mark down

ok thanks, all this marking stuff is sooooooooooo confusing
I wouldnt trust me word for word though
just do your best these next few days
and you'll be fine

people get so caught up in scaling, aligning, moderating,
ranks and raw marks... that they forget there's actually
a syllabus and a subject to study for

lol yeah i dont worry about the marks that much but i kept seeing people talk about "raw marks" and so i started to wonder maybe it was important or something, i figure you go in do what you can and thats it, its done, for good.

what the hell is a raw mark????
have you been living under a rock(hehe dreamerish...)

raw mark is your actual hsc mark, as in what you scored on the paper. scaled mark is the mark you end up getting in the hsc for that subject.
