It doesn't. z conj(z) = |z|^2

$$ Let $ z= x+iy$

$|z|^2 =x^2 +y^2$

$(x+iy)(x-iy)= x^2 +y ^2$

On the other hand, it could be a locus question.

z.z* = |z| is the unit circle centred at the origin.
